The comune of Cardedu is located in the Ogliastra province of Sardinia, 17km from the co-capital of Tortoli. Both outdoor and indoor activities, amenities and attractions can be found in Cardedu, making it a popular destination with all members of the family.

Things to do in Cardedu, Italy

Cardedu is located in a rural region of Sardinia, meaning outdoor activities such as hiking and mountain climbing can be enjoyed amongst a stunning and unspoilt backdrop. A great way of getting around is to hire a bicycle or mountain bike from Cardedu village centre, and head out with a packed lunch for a day of exploring. Remember to take plenty of water – you’ll need it in the strong Sardinian sunshine.

Cardedu is close to the beaches of the central east coast, and the clean sands and blue waters mean that they are ideal for families with young children. The waters are shallow for a considerable distance out, meaning children can play in the sunshine in relative safety. Some of the views from Cardedu beach are excellent, taking in a panoramic vista of sea, mountains, rocks and coastline.

Music, food, drink and celebrations are a huge part of Sardinian life, and Cardedu plays host to several festivals and events throughout the year. The majority of these are held in summer months to take advantage of the fantastic weather of the season. ‘Insieme a Cardedu’ is an especially popular summer event, and combines many types of entertainment to the benefit of both locals and tourists.

This part of Sardinia is particularly rural and the use of a hire car is strongly recommended if you want to explore it to its maximum potential.

Quiet rural property close to the sea

5 of 5
Pleasant apartment, well equipped. Cosy living room/kitchen area with comfortable seating. Decent sized balcony with seating. Rural views and plenty of wildlife! Owners were very friendly and accommodating. We liked the setting but others may find it a bit too rural especially if they don't like having animals(dogs, cats etc) in the vicinity. 15 minute walk or 2 minute drive to lovely beach with lots of space and a few beach bars etc. Nearest town cardedu has a few eateries and supermarkets but is quite quiet. Bari Sardo 15 minutes drive away has more life especially in the evenings. There are many lovely beaches and coves very close by, most were really quiet(empty) in September. You can walk from the property to the nearby historic sites or up the local hills. Trips farther afield take you to wonderful mountains with excellent hiking trails and an abundance of wildlife. We liked the fact that this was slightly out of the way and that the wonderful beaches were all but empty but it probably wouldn't suit if you like bars and buzzing nightlife, you'd be better off on the costa S'merelda!

Great villa in lovely part of Sardinia

5 of 5
We chose this villa as we wanted to stay in this part of Sardinia and we were delighted with our choice! The villa is really well designed, set in a pretty garden with its own pool. Although there are other properties on the same site, you don't feel like you are staying in a complex as all the properties are well spaced out and very private. Inside the villa is well equipped and it is clean and spacious. The villa is a short drive to the nearest beaches and shop. The local beach is very children friendly with a couple of beach bars and you can also hire kayaks and pedalos. Further afield, the coastline in this part of Sardinia is stunning and it was really worth taking a boat trip so that you can see it and visit some of the beaches, which are only accessible by boat. We also visited some of the inland areas, which are beautiful too. This was our third holiday in Sardinia and we would definitely come back to this area and this property. The owner was very welcoming. Despite the fact that our Italian is virtually non existent, he wanted to find out how we had got on and brought a friend along to translate!
