Make a holiday rental home or villa in Caprese Michelangelo, Italy your home away from home

Located 100km east of Florence, Caprese Michelangelo is a village and commune in Tuscany, in the province of Arezzo. It is named in honour of being the birthplace of the renowned Renaissance artist Michelangelo, and contains several buildings related to his life, including the Michelangelo Museum. Self catering accommodation in the area consists mainly of restored farmhouses, luxury villas and manor houses, making it a perfect destination for a holiday rental.

Things to do in Caprese Michelangelo, Italy

Caprese Michelangelo is a small village with a population of just 1,600 (approx), and most visitors come purely to visit the birthplace of the village’s most famous son. There are several sights which focus on the life and times of Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, including the Michelangelo Museum and Library – which is an absolute must-see for anyone holidaying in the area. The museum is housed in his birthplace, the Casa del Podesta, and displays life-sized copies of his masterpieces and other works by some of the most famous contemporary sculptors.

A couple of notable churches also attract a regular stream of visitors, most notably the 13th century Church of St. John the Baptist – where Michelangelo was baptized, and the San Paolo a Monna. The abbey of San Martino a Tifi also warrants a visit.

The village is ensconced in chestnut groves, and the chestnut is the local product, with tasting sessions are held on a regular basis. This culminates with the annual October wine and food event, which is regarded as the main event in the village’s calendar. The chestnut groves and surrounding woods are a great place for a stroll on a sunny day, though you will get to see a lot more if you take up the option of horse riding.

Places to visit on holiday in Caprese Michelangelo, Italy

As Caprese de Michelangelo is relatively small, visitors will likely want to get out and about to the surrounding areas when holidaying here. One of the several adjacent towns is Anghiari – a beautiful medieval town that lies between two rivers. Arezzo is just 40km away, allowing you to escape back to the hustle and bustle and of city life if you so wish to do so.

Weather in Caprese Michelangelo, Italy

The climate in Caprese Michelangelo and surrounding areas of Tuscany is ideal for a self catering vacation, as summer temperatures are sunny and warm, with an average of 30C, and winters are mild, with temperatures of below 10C considered unusual. Rainfall is relatively low all year round, allow visitors to enjoy the outdoors and soak up the Tuscan sun.

Flights to Caprese Michelangelo, Italy

The best bet in terms of flights is a budget flight to Arezzo Airport (QZO), and then completing the journey by hire car, or coach (changing at Anghiari). Arezzo is just 40km, and cheap flights are relatively easy to find. Failing that you can fly to Florence (FLR), but this more than doubles the second leg of your journey.

Splendid Holiday

5 of 5
What a thoroughly splendid time, from the hosts warm welcome, with a chilled bottle of proscecco, the well furnished, tidy, clean apartment, the heated salt pool it had everything we could have wanted. The hosts were attentive and helpful, the recommendations for places to eat showed a genuine love for the area and a willingness to help. We were honestly torn between relaxing by the pool and soaking up the sun or getting out to see the sights so my advice would be bring some comfortable shoes, plenty of sun protection and do as much of both as your time allows. Also bring a pair of binoculars because the wildlife you will see from your window is amazing. Make sure you take the trip to the olive oil mill where we sampled an array of flavoured oils, consumed copious amounts of tasty food and great wine,

Tranquillity at it's best

4 of 5
We strayed at the Chestnut Barn in July 2017 for two weeks with our labra doodle Wilson. We were warmly greeted on our arrival by Michelle and Nick and shown round. The Barn contains everything you need, has an excellent new Kitchen and is beautifully restored with lovely furnishing. The Barn is very private! There is really no house near to you at all, so very peaceful, with far reaching views to the snow clad Alps. The long single track up to the Barn continues on over the mountain and was perfect for walking Wilson off the lead, we only ever met one car in the whole two weeks and I am not sure who was more surprised to see who! The Barn has plenty of lawn area, we would have personally preferred more shade in the garden as there was not an umbrella or similar to get under in the heat of the day. The pool is lovely, but not heated, so beware it is surprisingly very cold and would benefit from having a pool cover on in the evening to try and keep some of the heat from the day or preferably to be heated, I was never able to stay in for more than 15mins, you certainly cooled down! There is a supermarket a few kilometres away, which has everything you might need. We visited several places, Gubbio which is famous for its pottery, high up on a hill top up, thank goodness for the escalator, Wilson was not so sure! On the day we were to visit Assisi we went wine tasting with Stephanie (ask Michelle about this) the vineyards were just below Assisi and you had your lunch with that most amazing view of Assisi, we bought some very nice wine there. Assisi was fabulous, lots of small winding alley ways, containing little houses and hidden gardens, as well as the obvious reasons for going there. We were disappointed with Siena, maybe we had just heard too much about it, for us it did not live up to the hype. We visited other places, did lots of great shopping and generally had a fantastic and relaxing time. We found that in the towns we visited that the Italians are great with animals, and we were always served with our beverages plus a water bowl for Wilson. We loved the Chestnut Barn and Michelle was great at organising the wine tasking and finding us a vet for Wilson to visit for his Tape worm tablets in order to allow Wilson re-entry into the UK, the Vet was excellent too. We had a fantastic, relaxing and peaceful time and would thoroughly recommend it.
