Make a holiday rental home or villa in Caprese Michelangelo, Italy your home away from home

Located 100km east of Florence, Caprese Michelangelo is a village and commune in Tuscany, in the province of Arezzo. It is named in honour of being the birthplace of the renowned Renaissance artist Michelangelo, and contains several buildings related to his life, including the Michelangelo Museum. Self catering accommodation in the area consists mainly of restored farmhouses, luxury villas and manor houses, making it a perfect destination for a holiday rental.

Things to do in Caprese Michelangelo, Italy

Caprese Michelangelo is a small village with a population of just 1,600 (approx), and most visitors come purely to visit the birthplace of the village’s most famous son. There are several sights which focus on the life and times of Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, including the Michelangelo Museum and Library – which is an absolute must-see for anyone holidaying in the area. The museum is housed in his birthplace, the Casa del Podesta, and displays life-sized copies of his masterpieces and other works by some of the most famous contemporary sculptors.

A couple of notable churches also attract a regular stream of visitors, most notably the 13th century Church of St. John the Baptist – where Michelangelo was baptized, and the San Paolo a Monna. The abbey of San Martino a Tifi also warrants a visit.

The village is ensconced in chestnut groves, and the chestnut is the local product, with tasting sessions are held on a regular basis. This culminates with the annual October wine and food event, which is regarded as the main event in the village’s calendar. The chestnut groves and surrounding woods are a great place for a stroll on a sunny day, though you will get to see a lot more if you take up the option of horse riding.

Just arrived back from our first Italian holiday, and what a wonderful holiday it was. Having spent a night in Pisa we set off to the house, which we found very easily thanks to Lesley's clear instructions. Once we arrived the first impressions were great as we pulled up the driveway and once we saw the inside and the beautiful pool in the garden it just got better. The house was wonderfully equipped and a short stroll up to the local restaurant which served nice traditional food. The location was a great base for visiting the region, Cortona and San gimignano were some of our favourites although nearby anghiari was beautiful with few tourists. We would definitely recommend the house and hope to return one day.

This was a special holiday to celebrate my 60th birthday. We arrived late and were very grateful that Freya and Malcom had a lovely meal and bottle of wine waiting for us. Also a very lovely food hamper was very much appreciated. The villa was in a beautiful location. Our apartment was lovely. Kitchen adequately equipped. Owners were lovely and very helpful especially about suggestions places worth a visit and good restaurants. Lee the guide who took us to La Verna was great. Very knowledgeable. There's lots to do in the area. We enjoyed seeing the local wildlife. Local restaurants excellent and very reasonable. We particularly enjoyed the 18 course Sunday lunch in Ceprese Michaelangelo. A disappointment was that there was no restaurant / chef or shop on site as mentioned in the information on the villa. However, that didn't spoil our holiday. Would love to visit again to see some of the other things we didn't manage this time. Thank you.

                                                    Fantastic

                                                    5 of 5
Absolutely super and would highly recommend this. Accommodation was elegant and full of Tuscan charm with the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. Plenty of room and the attention to detail was perfection as the owner even provided all the little things for your arrival that you never get when you normally rent a self catering place such as washing up liquid, sponges, bin bags loo paper and loads more as well as a fabulous welcome basket of goodies. The view is the best we have ever seen! So much to do locally too and the taxi service from the resort was used many times to go to the great local restaurants. Thanks so much and we will be back next year!!! x
