If you love the ocean and would like accommodation that will place you within easy reach of stunning beaches, fishing harbours, islands and water sports but is somewhat removed from the hustle and bustle of large tourist resorts, a holiday apartment in Cannigione is a good option. Tucked away deep in a sheltered bay in Sardinia’s north-east, Cannigione is a small town close to the area’s popular tourist resorts, yet far enough so that you can enjoy a peaceful retreat if you need one. As well as holiday apartments in Cannigione there are also villas so no matter if you’re a couple, family or a group of friends. Most HomeAway properties available for holiday rental are close to the sea and are equipped with the amenities you’ll need for a comfortable base on Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda.

Things to do

Traditionally a fishing village, Cannigione’s central location on the Costa Smeralda has made it increasingly popular with tourists. The mountains backing it means that the town has mostly developed along the coastline and most houses are within less than a mile from the waterfront. It’s a small town yet boasts most of the amenities you might need when you’re staying in a Cannigione holiday home.

-Cannigione’s main beach is towards the northern end of the village. It’s a lovely beach with fine, white sand and shallow, clear waters ideal for swimming and snorkelling. The beach has facilities like parking and wheelchair access. There are also several other stunning beaches in the surrounding area.

-Watersports have added to Cannigione’s popularity in recent years. There is a dive centre and you can also learn how to sail or windsurf here. Another option is to hire a boat or a small dinghy and go fishing or exploring the coastline.

-Bird watching is also another popular pastime. On the southern outskirts of town there is an estuary system known as Saloni. This area draws various bird species, especially herons and egrets.

-Palau is a nice trip out if you need a break from your holiday apartment in Cannigione. A few miles up the coast north-westward, this popular town is bigger than Cannigione and boasts spectacular rock formations like the Bear Rock along its coastline. A fun activity is to take a trip on the Trenino Verde to discover parts of the countryside you probably wouldn’t have seen otherwise.

-Arzachena is a market town a couple of miles inland to the south-west, of Cannigione. Here you’ll find several Nuragic sites, including the Giants’ Tombs of Li Lolghi and Coddu Vecchju, the nuraghe of Albucciu and the temple of Malchittu. Travel to Palau and then take the ferry to the town and archipelago of La Maddalena. The archipelago forms part of a national park and has many gorgeous, unspoilt beaches. There are some interesting historical sites on the main island and several hiking trails to explore. From La Maddalena town you can cross the bridge to the island of Caprera, where Italian hero Giuseppe Garibaldi spent his final years and is buried. The house where he lived is now a museum.

Weather in Cannigione

Cannigione has a warm Mediterranean climate like the rest of Sardinia. However, it’s not as hot as many other destinations on the island. In summer, temperatures reach a maximum of about 27 °C while winter days can be quite cool. Summers are dry and great for a beach vacation. Winters are generally wet.

Getting to Cannigione

To get to your Cannigione holiday accommodation, it’s easiest to fly into Olbia-Costa Smeralda Airport, which receives flights from airports in many European cities, including flights from London, Bristol and Leeds. From Olbia you can take a taxi or bus north-westwards to Cannigione. It’s also worth considering hiring a car at the airport and self-driving the 16 miles or so.

Zwei wunderschöne Wochen im Appartment

Die Wohnung ist sehr sauber und es ist alles was man für den täglichen Gebrauch benötigt ist vorhanden. Kommunikation vor Ort leider nur auf Italienisch (mit Google translator) möglich, aber schnelle Erledigung im Bedarfsfall (Gasflasche). Einziges Problem war in der ersten Woche die (sehr langsame) Wifi-Verbindung. In der zweite Urlaubswoche (ab 1 Sept.) war die Verbindung OK. Alles in allem zwei wunderschöne Wochen im Appartement auf Sardinien.

Un bon pied à terre

Cet appartement nous a laissé une bonne impression générale : bien situé, au calme, propre et bien organisé (spacieux, belle terrasse vue mer, sdb attenante à la chambre parents en plus d'une autre) Les plages situées dans un rayon d'une quinzaine de km sont magnifiques, le port de Cannigione, que l'on gagne à pied en quelques minutes est sympa. La procédure de réservation s'est déroulée sans souci. On nous a gentiment proposé de pouvoir quitter l'appartement un peu plus tard le dernier jour. Quelques bémols cependant. L'accueil sur place est minimaliste: on nous remet la clé, nous indique où la laisser le dernier jour et voilà. Nous aurions apprécié par exemple que l'on nous explique comment se débarrasser des poubelles, comment faire que la machine à laver essore le linge ! (...ce que nous n'avons pas réussi à faire les deux fois où nous l'avons fait fonctionner!) Nous avons par ailleurs dû telephoner 3 fois à la personne de contact pour que le wifi soit activé...ce qui l'a été durant deux jours après quoi les données mises à disposition étaient épuisées, sans que nous en ayons abusé, loin s'en faut. Donc si vous avez besoin d'une connexion internet par wifi, oubliez! Il faut savoir que tôt le matin, le supermarché voisin occasionne un moment du bruit, mais tout redevient calme ensuite. Le matelas du lit double mériterait d'être renouvelé. Finalement, un aspirateur ne serait pas un luxe pour le ménage courant durant deux semaines de séjour durant lequel on rentre avec du sable.
