  • Well equipped village house
    5 of 5

This is a 3 storey village house situated about 100 metres from the village square when there is plenty of safe parking. The House is a three story village house which has been modernised to a high standard. It is very comfortable and extremely well equipped. It has two lovely balconies with fabulous views over the village, mountains and the sea in the distance. Pietrapaola is a lovely mountain village with amenities that include a shop, post office, many mobiles shops that visit and the Cafe/Bar Rio where we were made most welcome. Pizzas were availability during August - just look for the tables set out! We were extremely lucky to be there when the new church doors were inaugurated- there was a concert in the village when opera singers from the Florence Opera House (one being a "local boy" ) performed - it was a magical evening. Live Music and singing Is spontaneous here and we were made to feel part of the community. The local agents, Franco and Francesca looked after us very well and included us in BBQs and a celebration of their silver wedding anniversary. The only criticism was the poor internet. However, if you visited the coast (Lido di Pietrapaola or Lido Azzurro) there was free internet which was OK. There are plenty of lovely sandy beaches in the area to enjoy.

  • Excellently run modern complex, very secure, rural coastal village setting.
    4 of 5

Gated residential holiday village with good sized pool, comfortable sun loungers with facial shades and parasols. The apartment has a beautiful vista with sunny balconies overlooking green fields and the entire coastline. AC system in living area and bedroom fans. Two bedrooms with three good sized double beds and plenty of wardrobe space. Kitchen is petite, with gas stove and oven, and fridge freezer. There was no vacuum cleaner or mop which was unusual as the overall floor space is bigger than a hands and knees job will allow. However, there is a large table and chairs both in the eating area and on the main balcony. It really is very spacious. Theres a fantastic bakery, butcher and supermarket ten minutes walk from the complex. There is however no pool bar or playground area for children. This wasn't a problem for us. The beach, of which there are public and private areas, was about a fifteen minute easy stroll. Most evenings in August there is dancing and fireworks on the beach or at the weddings in the Castillo nearby. The coastal villages lack the charm of other regions, as this is truly an agricultural area and not romanticised or hyped as a tourist trap! You are experiencing the South of Italy in all its rugged swarthiness. The sea is blessedly clean and clear, and the gentle breeze reaches the balcony which is very refreshing in the heat of the afternoon. We had a couple of initial hiccoughs, such as the AC and oven can't be used simultaneously and you need to know where the 2nd breaker box is ... outside. But the groundsman was very helpful. It was difficult to reach the owners local manager as he was overseas and his on site handler was not a helpful man, probably because this wasnt his usual job. Bear in mind that no one speaks English.... or French or German as I discovered, but they do their best in their brusque way, which I think is down to a perfectly normal discomfort with being unable to communicate without all parties resorting to hand gestures and toddler speak! Incidentally there is a decent selection of larger supermarkets a few miles either side of the village, but you won't find many souvenir shops. I didn't see any at all actually. The local restaurants were unappealing, but you don't come here for culinary pleasures...... Sun, sea, agricultural environment and feeling like cities and life are far away. All of those boxes were ticked and the apartment was comfortable, spacious and in a well cared for complex! Happy!
