This was our second stay this year in this apartment and we loved it again. It is cosy and comfortable. There are mosquitoes, but we find with a bit of repellent, it's no problem and it would not deter us from returning. (I'm already looking at December, April and June!) The area is so quiet and just around the corner are all the provision, independently run, shops you could ever want to eat Italian style. Just a pleasant walk to the walls of Lucca and the best Gelateria close by - La Piccolo Bonta, I think its' called. It has wonderful gateau as well. So special for us Brits to be able to go out at 10.00 at night for ice cream on a warm evening!!!
On arrival shocked by the very steep two and a half flights of steps and carrying a case made it difficult to negotiate. It should be more prominent in the description as I know people younger than me who could not manage the stairs.
Everything was clean until we moved the two single beds together (as requested) and I then spent some time cleaning the floor which had not been cleaned for quite some time and was dirty.
Kitchen clean and well equipped although we only prepared breakfast and cold lunch but no kettle or a suitable pan with pouring v for boiling water for drinks. We used the coffee percolator and we liked the basic oil and condiments left and we added rather than take sundries home.
The bathroom was clean and only a few sheets of toilet paper left and no soap to wash hands....... so an immediate trip down those steps to buy some at the supermarket a few steps away (turn right and straight over the cross of walkways and it's on the right - very handy!)
The outdoor terrace was lively and we enjoyed breakfast and lunch there. It does need some maintenance as the terracotta tiles need cleaning and only one relaxing chair as the other broken so we had to take it in turns.
The lounge is dark and as the second bedroom is small and didn't have hanging space we left our cases out there for easy access and more room in the bedroom. My daughter and partner found the double bed very hard and uncomfortable but the two single beds were quite comfortable and the bed linen was ok.
We liked the apartment and the terrace and the central location was excellent, although noisy at night and in the morning sometimes. I think I would book again if staying in Lucca but only because of the location and terrace.
As for Lucca - station easy to access and hourly trains to Florence but there is so much to see and do in Lucca that I preferred it - an utterly fantastic place to visit and I hope to return soon.
