Things to do

-Winter sport. The mountainous terrain in the Biella province offer great opportunities for snow sports in the colder months. Bielmonte and Orope are two ski resorts with great facilities and a range of slopes. The Bocchetto Sassera area also gets a healthy covering of snow and is a favoured destination for cross-country skiers.

-Nature. At other times of the year it’s well worth getting out and experiencing the full beauty of the landscapes in Biella. Oasi Zegna is nestled in the mountains and a great starting point for walks and mountain bike adventures. In the summer Lake Viverone is also popular, providing a picturesque setting for water-sports like canoeing and fishing.

-Viticulture. Holiday homes in Biella are found within a prominent wine-growing region. Departing eastwards from the town of Biella on the way to Cossato you’ll pass through a number of D.O.C. wine-producing areas, including Bramaterra, Lessona and Coste del Sesia. To the south of Biella, near Lake Viverone is the white-wine growing region of Erbaluce.

-Dining. Even within the confines of the Biella province there’s a wide range of local specialities. These include cheeses like Beddu and Toma, as well as salamis made from beef, goat and even donkey meat. Traditional sweets here include Canestrelli, which is a wafer with chocolate and hazelnut.

-History. Biella has seen a number of civilisations come and go over the course of a few millennia. If you have an interest in Roman history then you could head for the province’s Museo del Territorio, which has a large exhibition of Roman-era artefacts. Piazzo is an essential destination, sitting on a hill-top and boasting beautifully preserved architecture.

Average temperatures increase sharply through late-winter and spring, and by May there are daily highs in the low-20s. The warmest month of the year is July, with maximums around the high-20s. Meanwhile, a great deal of the annual rainfall occurs in autumn and spring.

Property scrupulously clean and well equipped.Very warm welcome from host. Superb peaceful location

5 of 5
As a family of five with three adult children we all really enjoyed a great holiday and would love to repeat the visit. The apartment was very spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean with wonderful lake views from the windows. The property was in an outstanding location right beside Lake Orta. One of the highlights of the holiday was the easy access to the lake from the beautiful garden, via the boathouse which had paved steps and a rope handrail leading directly into the water. The lake was very clean and clear and we swam two or three times a day. Wonderful! It was only a five minute walk to get to several small shops and restaurants in the picturesque old town. The most important being a delicious ice cream shop. Boats at the town square could take you to other locations on Lake Orta. The setting of the apartment was so idyllic and peaceful that we were content to stay in the garden by the lake a lot of time rather than do too much exploring by car. Stefano was a most welcoming host. He went out of his way to be most helpful to us and we really enjoyed hearing about the history of the building and his family connection to it. We would have no hesitation in strongly recommending this property.

A view to dream of and feast upon.

5 of 5
Lake Orta is beautiful and the view from the apartment simply stunning with the island centre stage. The accomodation clean and well equipped although perhaps could benefit from more comfortable seating for those lazy evenings.Nicolo and Maria were extremely welcoming and helpful and did their best to ensure our stay was enjoyable. It certainly was. A fantastic ice cream parlour only steps away and a couple of pizzerias and a good restaurant a matter of yards.Ferries and water taxis on the doorstop but car hire advisable to explore the wider fantastic scenery. A memorable holiday thanks
