Relax

Perfection in Lunigiana

5 of 5
It's not often that you manage to book a holiday home which meets all your expectations, but this was absolutely the case with Casa della Vigna. Perched high above the town of Aulla, and only an hour's drive from Pisa airport, this was exactly what we needed for a one-week break in this stunning (and not too hot!) part of Italy. The views from the totally-private sunny patio area are magnificent - snow-capped mountains, hill-top villages and the town itself, far below. The house is well-equipped, and totally comfortable. The village is quiet and peaceful (hardly any cars, but plenty of sunbathing cats!), and the local residents are friendly, pausing to call 'Buon Giorno' whenever you pass, or keen to try out a little English. There are a number of restaurants within easy walking distance, most with stunning views, and it was good to be surrounded by Italian families enjoying an evening out, rather than the usual hoards of tourists. We drove to the coast on a couple of days to enjoy the delights of the bustling Italian Riviera, and - of course - to Pisa itself. All just perfect!
