Make a holiday rental home or villa in Assisi, Italy your home away from home

Assisi is one of the true gems of the Italian tourist industry, with staggering scenery and some of the most beautiful architecture in the world. Assisi makes for essential viewing whilst travelling through Italy, but there is far more to do in Assisi than you could fit in during a single trip. However long you decide to take a villa in Assisi for, the feeling of looking out over such a remarkable town, with the famous rolling hills of Umbria as your backdrop, is an unrivalled experience.

Things to do in Assisi, Italy

You could walk the streets of Assisi for many, many weeks. There are some of the finest (and most unique) buildings here, and every street you walk down brings you out into a wide, sunny square, surrounded by fine architecture and pavement cafes. There are many churches and monasteries throughout the town, that are not only atmospheric but also adorned with fine frescos. The Basilica di San Francesco, Rocca Maggiore Fortress and the Pinacoteca Comunale are among the favourite destinations for visitors. Outside the city walls are some of the most fascinating sights, made extra special due to the number of visitors who fly through their tour of Assisi, only visiting the best known sights. The Roman ruins and sacred shines found outside the city are well worth visiting from Assisi holiday accommodation.

Assisi is known as the birthplace of St Francis, patron Saint of Italy, and as a result is hugely popular with pilgrims and those interested in religious history, but visitors do not need to be religiously orientated to appreciate the magnificent spectacle that is the town of Assisi.

Walking in the Umbrian Valley is a huge draw to accommodation in Assisi too, as the shaded valleys and wooded slopes are not only beautifully scenic and unbelievably peaceful, but they are also littered with ancient ruins. You could be walking metres from a Roman villa or ancient church without realising, or stumble across a medieval monastery at any moment, which makes walking and riding in the area even more attractive.

Places to holiday in Assisi, Italy

Escaping the summer crowds to Perugia is a wonderful experience. Inexplicably passed over by the mass tourist market, Perugia offers a magnificent number of places of interest, top class restaurants and many cultural attractions throughout the year, including the huge Umbria Jazz Festival in July.

Weather in Assisi, Italy

All year round, Assisi is a holiday favourite as temperatures never seem to embrace winter. Even during the coldest months, December and January, temperatures stay above 13?C. Summer temperatures are gloriously warm, with averages temperatures ranging from 25-30?C.

Travel to Assisi, Italy

Once a day, Ryanair provide a service from London Stansted (STN) to Sant’Egidio Airport in Perugia (PEG), which is located just 11km from an Assisi holiday rental. If Stansted is not particularly close to you, there are other options for reaching Assisi. Rome is just 2 hours by train, and there are plenty of flights arriving into Fiumicino Airport (FCO) from across the UK.

fantastic dream property

5 of 5
travelling with friends to see the churches and medieval cities. Villa R and R provided a home, a place of rest, a place of green, a place of charm, a place of quiet. I didn't realize a home away could be so beautiful. It's my first airbnb experience and it makes such a difference to have a home of your own, and in particular one like like this that is so independent and private. just a fantastic experience. It is a good thing we had a car, as it allowed us to travel far and wide and always return to the green and beauty of villa R and R. Highly recommended. I would love to return again. Esther

Defintively *5 stars* Lovely House with pool

5 of 5
Great location in the heart of Umbria, close to Assisi. You can either relax at the gorgeous pool or tour the uncountable little old towns in the surrounding apennin mountains. The house has everything you need, kitchen two bedrooms and two baths on two floors. Shopping and eating (agriturismo and pizzeria) in 5 to 10 minutes driving distance. A big supermarket is located in Spello, about 10 minutes away. Our hosts Sue and Frank were great. Always there when we needed them. We will definitely try to return because it turned out to be one of our most relaxing vacations.
