Make a holiday rental home or villa in Assisi, Italy your home away from home

Assisi is one of the true gems of the Italian tourist industry, with staggering scenery and some of the most beautiful architecture in the world. Assisi makes for essential viewing whilst travelling through Italy, but there is far more to do in Assisi than you could fit in during a single trip. However long you decide to take a villa in Assisi for, the feeling of looking out over such a remarkable town, with the famous rolling hills of Umbria as your backdrop, is an unrivalled experience.

Things to do in Assisi, Italy

You could walk the streets of Assisi for many, many weeks. There are some of the finest (and most unique) buildings here, and every street you walk down brings you out into a wide, sunny square, surrounded by fine architecture and pavement cafes. There are many churches and monasteries throughout the town, that are not only atmospheric but also adorned with fine frescos. The Basilica di San Francesco, Rocca Maggiore Fortress and the Pinacoteca Comunale are among the favourite destinations for visitors. Outside the city walls are some of the most fascinating sights, made extra special due to the number of visitors who fly through their tour of Assisi, only visiting the best known sights. The Roman ruins and sacred shines found outside the city are well worth visiting from Assisi holiday accommodation.

Assisi is known as the birthplace of St Francis, patron Saint of Italy, and as a result is hugely popular with pilgrims and those interested in religious history, but visitors do not need to be religiously orientated to appreciate the magnificent spectacle that is the town of Assisi.

Walking in the Umbrian Valley is a huge draw to accommodation in Assisi too, as the shaded valleys and wooded slopes are not only beautifully scenic and unbelievably peaceful, but they are also littered with ancient ruins. You could be walking metres from a Roman villa or ancient church without realising, or stumble across a medieval monastery at any moment, which makes walking and riding in the area even more attractive.

Places to holiday in Assisi, Italy

Escaping the summer crowds to Perugia is a wonderful experience. Inexplicably passed over by the mass tourist market, Perugia offers a magnificent number of places of interest, top class restaurants and many cultural attractions throughout the year, including the huge Umbria Jazz Festival in July.

Weather in Assisi, Italy

All year round, Assisi is a holiday favourite as temperatures never seem to embrace winter. Even during the coldest months, December and January, temperatures stay above 13?C. Summer temperatures are gloriously warm, with averages temperatures ranging from 25-30?C.

We were in the area for a couple of nights over Easter and Casa Rosa was suggested to us. I'm very glad we decided to stay here! We arrived late on the Saturday night over the Easter weekend. Assisi was busy, but we followed the sat nav halfway up the hill until Alessandro found us and we follwed him the rest of the way. It was at that point I knew we were going to enjoy our stay! In the morning we awoke to amazing view of the land and had a traditional Italian Easter breakfast, prepared freshly by Alessandro and Ella. It was simply devine. We were told about a couple of places to go and see during the day and were suggested somewhere for an evening meal. I can't remember to the name of the restaurant, but all the food was cooked over an open fire, it was amazing! We spend 2 nights there before we had to leave, but can't recommenced Casa Rosa highly enough. The place is magical, the hosts, Ella and Alessandro are amazing, they are both super friendly (and speak great English) and nothing is too much trouble for them!

We stayed for a week with our kids age 8&10. It was stunningly beautiful and steeped in history. Assisi is only 5 min in the car and simply gorgeous. We stayed in Fico (fig tree, which was outside our villa and full of ripe figs the kids picked and devoured!!) but there are 10 units in this ancient converted little manor. It's run by Raffaella who was a fantastic host, and her ancestors have lived here for centuries. Absolutely fabulous place, we didn't want to leave. The pool was great, with fab views of monte subasio. Raffaella's tourist itineraries were very well researched and easy to follow, we did a couple of tours she had mapped out. Fabulous holiday. Highly recommended
