Make a holiday rental home or villa in Argegno, Italy your home away from home

The town of Argegno lies on an inlet on the famous Lake Como in Northern Italy. The stunning panoramic views and mild climate make holiday rentals in Argegno hugely popular year round, and the ancient Roman town centre is an absolute joy in which to sit and drink coffee from one on the open-air pavement cafes. Almost totally void of tourists, Argegno remains authentically Italian, and entirely relaxed. There is no better escape on the shores of Lake Como than an Argegno villa.

Things to do in Argegno, Italy

The enchanting medieval centre of Argegno is stunning, surrounded like delightful old houses and ancient factories. There are some beautiful sights to see within the village, from the Sanctuary of Sant’Anna which is adorned with 17th century frescos, and the Oratorio of San Rocco. Long, leisurely lunches are part of life in Argegno, and there are ample opportunities to indulge in the finest of local culture, sitting beside the lake, with the sun on your face, stunning views of majestic mountains in your mind and the taste of sweet white wines in your mouth.

If you take the cable car from the centre of the village up to the Pigra, some 8881 metres above your head, you not only get the most impressive views of the lake available from anywhere, but you also get to explore the Valle della Camoggia conservation area. There are a great range of walks and mountain bike trails to explore, taking you deep into the forested mountains of Lake Como, allowing you to discover some of the most delightful hidden spots you can find.

The lake itself is a huge source of entertainment for those lucky enough to be staying in a self catering Argegno holiday rental too. The small lake beaches are an absolute delight during the summer months, and the reliable breezes that blow up the lake are not only perfect for keeping the hot air refreshed, but also for sailing and windsurfing breaks. Fishing is also hugely popular on the lake, and the waters are easily clean enough for you to enjoy refreshing swims to escape the afternoon heat.

Places to visit on holiday in Argegno, Italy

Bellagio is the most famous town on the shores of Lake Como, and is easily reached from a holiday rental in Argegno, whether by road or via the waters of Lake Como itself. Bellagio is well worth a visit, especially due to the spectacular gardens and gourmet restaurants that line the water’s edge.

Weather in Argegno, Italy

Villas in Argegno are at their most popular between March and late October as daily temperatures reach into the 30’s (˚C) on the huge majority of days, making swimming, sailing, kayaking and wind surfing hugely popular.

Travel to Argegno, Italy

A holiday rental property in Argegno is easily accessible from either Milan’s Malpensa Airport (MXP) or Bergamo’s Orio Al Serio Airport (BGY), both of which are served by Ryanair flights from across the UK (Milan receives a huge range of services besides Ryanair, but they do provide the most extensive range of services). Milan Airport is just 60km from an Argegno villa, and a hire car is strongly recommended. There is however a great train service from Milan to Como if you would prefer to avoid driving.

Clean and spacious, with great views and location.

5 of 5
We stayed here over the winter holidays with a group of 5. Upon getting to property, we were pleased with how easy it was to park in the covered garage. We only had one car, but there could be room in the garage for two smaller cars, and there is also parking available off-street right outside the property. When we got into the house there was a small gift waiting for us with Prosecco (score!) so we could celebrate after our long day of travel. I was pleased that the house was very clean and organized upon our arrival as well. The home is quite large compared to others we looked at, and with our group of five we never felt like we were in each other’s ways. All of the rooms have gorgeous views of the lake; I especially love that it is north-facing so we get to see the Alps in the background. The kitchen was easy to cook/clean in, with a gas stove and oven, large refrigerator, and dishwasher. There is also a washer/dryer on the downstairs floor, which we used once and was easy to figure out. It got fairly cold outside during our stay, so I was afraid that the house might get cold and uncomfortable. I was delighted though with how well the radiators were able to heat the rooms, nobody felt too cold the whole time we were there (not even in the loft!). Being the winter, I didn’t expect too much to be open in town since Lake Como is fairly tourist driven. However, while there were a few businesses closed for winter, it seemed like most of Argegno was still open. There are lots of locals who live in the area, so restaurants still fill up in the evenings (although we never had trouble getting a table). I highly recommend Bistro Argegno if you’re looking for a good place to get a drink/appetizers. Café Columbo is also great, and is the go-to place for bicyclists during the day and locals in the evenings. Both of these restaurants, as well as the rest of downtown Argegno, are only a 5-minute walk from the property. We also traveled to some nearby towns. Como is not far away (20ish minute drive), and is where we got most of our groceries (at a store called Bennet). The ferry has limited hours over the winter but we did take it once to Menaggio which was lovely. If you’re feeling more adventurous, you can drive 2 hours to Tirano and take the train into Switzerland. The trip is gorgeous, but is definitely an all-day event. Overall our stay at Bella Vista sul Lago was amazing, and I cannot wait to stay here again in the summer months!

Overall a very nice stay!

We recently returned from a lovely week in apartment #7 (August 2017). I recommend the apartment and town to anyone considering a laid back summer week in Lake Como! The photos, descriptions and reviews are all very accurate. Communication with John was great - he very quick to reply to any questions. The views are stunning! The apartment is a great value!   A few extra comments: There were six of us (three adults, three children). The electric air mattress fits in the room with the two twin beds. The air mattress worked fine for our two children (4 and 8), but probably not ideal for adults.  We earned a dip in the pool after the steep stairs and hill from the village to the apartment! The hill was not a problem for our 4 year old, but as noted in another review, it could be a challenge to others less able. The pool was a big hit with the kids. It was a bit chilly when I first got in, but then I got used to it. You share it with the other apartments, which works just fine.  Argegno is a small town, which suited us well. The tiny market is tiny; we went to Lenno for more substantial grocery shopping. The gelato is excellent! The restaurants were all enjoyable (for dining in and take-away). We did not have a car. It is connected with the bus, ferry and high speed boat ferry. Boats and buses are not that frequent, but if you plan ahead it works just fine (although one day we had to hitch a ride back from Lenno as no buses came by). The only drawback to the town is that the main road runs right through it. We visited the mid-lake towns (Bellaggio, Verrana, Menaggio), Como and even went to Milan for the day.  Overall a very nice stay!
