Make a holiday rental home or villa in Ameglia, Italy your home away from home

Lying just 11km from the capital of the region, La Spezia, Ameglia accommodation is a good alternative to staying just outside of the busy city centre. Over the last couple of decades tourism has increased in Ameglia, and the quality of amenities is now more than suitable for a destination of such beauty – in the heart of a regional park, close to the sea and positioned to the delightful backdrop of mountains and countryside.

Things to do in Ameglia, Italy

Ameglia lies on the banks of the Magra River, and near the mouth of the river is the remains of an ancient Roman Villa that dates back to 1BC. Another sight of historical interest is the Church of San Pietro, which dates back to the 15th century, and there are several other old buildings to keep history and culture lovers happy.

The village centre remains much the same as it always has been; small, traditional and steeped in history. Ameglia is closely linked to Bocca di Magra, and a walk between the two is an enjoyable ten minute exercise. This is the part of town where you will find the fishermen out in force, going about their daily duties and bringing in the catches, and also where you can enjoy a meal or drink near the waterfront.

One of the most visited points of interest in Ameglia is the Orto Botanico di Montemarcello, a botanical garden and nature preserve, which itself is also in the Montemarcello Magra Regional Park. As well as being home to a diverse range of plant and animal life, the nature preserve is much-visited due to its lofty position 365 metres above sea level, which offers panoramic views out over the Ligurian countryside.

Places to visit on holiday in Ameglia, Italy

After you have explored the delights of Ameglia you will likely wish to venture out and see what else the province of La Spezia has to offer. The answer is plenty; Lerici (8km) is one of the closest towns and notable for its towering castle which is now home to a palaeontology museum, whilst the city of La Spezia has all of the shops, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants that a self-caterer could possibly require, to go with its centuries-old castles and churches.

Weather in Ameglia, Italy

Hot summers and mild winters characterise the local climate, so you will never freeze to death in Ameglia. Temperatures of well above 30C are possible on the hottest of summer days, but the summer months average out at a more pleasant 28C. Showers are common in this part of Liguria, with spring and autumn being the rainiest seasons.

Flights to Ameglia, Italy

Galileo Galilei International Airport, the name for the major airport on the outskirts of Pisa, is the nearest airport to Ameglia, being 65km to the south-east. The airport receives flights from the UK in the shape of Ryanair, British Airways, Jet2.com and Thomson Airways services, with journey time from the UK to Pisa being around an hour and a half.

Review for stay from 15 May 2018 to 19 May 2018

5 of 5
Quirky apartment that makes you truly feel as if you are living in italy! Place itself was a lot bigger than we thought with a hot tub and walk in wardrobe along side the 4 poster bed.....which was very comfy! Even at 27 weeks pregnant! The weather wasnt great when we stayed but the gardens, our personal outside space and pool area were all still perfectly manicured and a pleasure to be in. The town itself is beautiful and very quaint with the BEST restaurant hidden meters away from the apartment. We stayed here and travelled to lerici (10mins), porto venere (40mins) & cinque terre (30mins) with no problem at all....the drive was gorgeous in itself and not too many little roads! The first 2 places we drove directly to but for cinque terre we drove to la spezia (parked in the station car park €12 for the day) and got a train into the 5 towns. You can buy a hop on/off ticket for €16 to use all day-which also gives you access to the toilets!) It was no problem at all and was perfect to be away from crowds once back to the villa. All in all we loved our stay here!!"

A nice appartment in a lovely location

4 of 5
We stayed for a week in mid May 2018. The apartment was well situated for our planned visits to the Cinque Terre as well as the more local towns of Lerici, Sarzana, Carrara and La Spezia. The apartment has all the necessary requirements and has a lovely private location within the grounds of the owners villa. From the sun terrace you can look out across the broad expanse of the Gulf of Spezia. It is very quiet. Valeria was most welcoming and helpful before and during our stay. The very narrow road to the property could be an issue for larger cars re access but Valeria will meet you in the free car park in Montemarcello and take you and your luggage to the apartment. We left our hire car in the car park which was quite safe, it is only 5 minutes walk away. Montemarcello is a typical hill top village and has a restaurant, a bar and 2 small shops serving coffee and ice cream etc. It is in a quiet location and well located for day trips to Portofino, Lucca or Pisa. It is about 1 hour from Pisa Airport. This is one of the nicest properties and locations we have stayed at in Italy and Valeria could not have been more pleasant and helpful.
