Lovely villa

4 of 5
This could be a five star review but for a few things, mostly beyond the owners control, which I will come to. First I have to say that the garden and pool are absolutely fabulous and, as this is where you should spend most of your time, this is really where the 4 stars are earned. The pool is massive, we've been renting villas across Europe for 20 years now, and the pool is the best we've ever had. The garden is well laid out and mature and it was wonderful sitting in the shade of the olive trees watching the dragonflies and the lizards flit about. The large table and parasol is a great spot to sit and eat. In the evening the balcony was a terrific place to sit. There's plenty of entertainment to be had watching the bats feeding on the moths attracted by the spot light above it. It also meant we weren't soaked by the garden sprinklers that come on around midnight. The villa is not large, but is clean (although the cooker needs a scrub), comfortable and perfectly functional. Having a decent parking space that you could lock the gates on was good too. Once the gates are locked you could feel very safe here. The things that detract are 1/ The closeness of the motorway. It's a constant background noise in the day (but you really don't hear it once inside at night). 2/ The wi-fi provided is best described as poor, fortunately we had large enough data packages to get us through the week. 3/ We like to be able to walk to somewhere in the evening, but a car is absolutely essential here. The villa is tucked away down some very narrow back streets and there is nothing within walking distance by way of shops or restaurants. You even have to take a drive to get rid of your rubbish. Finally, I would recommend the owners provide more comprehensive instructions on how things work around the villa. They don't speak English and we barely understand Italian, so it was a bit hit and miss as to whether we got what they were telling us on arrival. (Thank God for Google translate though!) A folder of some sort with clear instructions on things like the villa lighting, pool lights, what to do when the power goes, the washing machine etc would be useful. It could also contain more detail about how things work in Sicily (eg the supermarkets don't open on Sunday afternoons) and where the nearest banks, shops, restaurants and attractions are. Overall, this is a villa I would definitely recommend providing you don't mind driving.

A tranquil haven

5 of 5
We spent five days in this peaceful setting. Guiseppe extends a very warm welcome to his guests and you are soon settled into the lovely, well appointed, spacious appartment. Between the shady terrance and the swimming pool we spent many happy hours. The views of the sea and mountains are wonderful. Easy access by car to nearby shops and cafes. The fishing village of Puntacello is well worth a visit. Palermo is only a 35 minute train journey away from the local station which is only a 10 minute drive away, although leave enough time to walk to the nearby cafe to buy the train ticket. Trains run every hour. We look forward to our return trip.
