Make a holiday apartment in Alghero Town your home away from home

With HomeAway you can track down the holiday home in Alghero Town that has everything you need for an unforgettable getaway. Alghero is on Sardinia’s northwest coast and offers glorious beaches, lots of history and more activities and sights than you could cram into one holiday. Alghero Town apartments are spacious, modern and elegantly furnished – your rental might be on a cobbled street at the heart of the old town, or overlooking the Mediterranean. Many Alghero Town holiday homes help you escape the summer heat with air-conditioning, and gardens with barbecues are also provided by most rentals here.

Things to do

-Beaches. On an island renowned for its sublime beaches, Alghero has some great choices along 80 kilometres of coastline, including two fabulous examples at Bombarde and Lido san Giovanni. Bombarde is a long curve of sand, backed by picnic areas and forest. Lido san Giovanni is stunning, with a white sandy bay lapped by clear waters and framed by pine-clad hills.

-Diving. The calm, clear and warm waters just off the coast make for ideal diving conditions, and in the Alghero area you’ll find eight dive centres. The main destination for trips is the marine reserve at Capo Caccio, just next to Alghero, which provides a habitat for a wealth of underwater life, and also boasts spectacular caves.

-History. Alghero is a picturesque town, surrounded at points by seven of its original defensive towers, dating to the 1200s and built by the Genoans. In the old town you’ll find an array of palazzi, in the gothic, baroque and neoclassical styles. Well worth a visit is the baroque church of San Michele, easily recognised by its unusual dome, which has become a symbol for Alghero.

-Food and drink. The cuisine around Alghero is simple and rustic, with an emphasis on vegetables. A classic dish here is favata - fava beans cooked with sausage and bacon. The vineyards in the Alghero area produce a range of highly regarded red, white and rose wines. There’s also the Sorso Sennori muscat, a sweet dessert wine.

-Outdoor activities. You can admire Alghero’s natural and human history along an archaeological trail next to the coast just outside the town. Amid wild Mediterranean vegetation you’ll discover Roman villas and Phoenician ruins overlooking Porto Conte Bay. From the tourist port you could also catch a boat to visit the House of Neptune, an impressive grotto at the base of nearby Capo Caccio.

Weather in Alghero Town

In Alghero you’ll get a warm Mediterranean climate. Summers are long, hot and dry, while winters tend to be mild and damper. In fact, a large proportion of the annual rainfall occurs only between October and February. Temperatures in mid-winter tend to rise to the low-teens during the day and stay well above freezing. If you’re heading for Alghero for a beach holiday then you could arrive in early-May, and the weather only gets hotter from there, getting up to the high-20s in mid-summer.

Travel to Alghero Town

You can get to Alghero from Britain via Fertilia Airport (AHO), with charter flights during the summer and low-cost airlines throughout the year. The airport is just outside the town, and also has routes to and from Italian mainland cities like Milan, Naples, Rome and Turin. You can also get to your holiday apartment in Alghero by sea via the nearby harbour at Porto Torres – there are connections to the French ports of Marseille and Ajaccio, as well as Genoa in northern Italy.

Well situated and equipped apartment in Alghero

4 of 5
We booked for a week in July and we were very pleased with the apartment which is well situated about 10 minutes walk from the centre of Alghero in a quiet district. The apartment is incredibly well equipped, particularly the kitchen and most things were new. There are three balconies! Plenty of room for eating outdoors and drying swimming things and two lovely bathrooms. It was good value for money and the owners were lovely and helpful as was the Manager Ashley. If we were being super picky we would suggest an extra chair in the living room as one sofa and two footstools was not enough.

Correct apartment

5 of 5
The supermarket is 50 m, the beach is 100 m, downtown is 1,5km from the appartment. Parking is charge of free on the street, sometimes you need to hunt the right place, but it is OK. The host is helpful and correct, he gives you everything what you could not to bring with yourself from home, but might be necessary for your holiday. The beds are comfortable. I really recommend for 4 persons family.
