The city of Alcamo dates back to around the 9th Century and is the fourth largest city in the Trapani province of north-west Sicily. Self-catering accommodation in Alcamo makes for a great alternative to staying in Palermo, offering visitors a truly authentic Sicilian experience but keeping them within touching distance of the capital. The city includes historical sights, thermal baths and high quality restaurants at some of its main attractions.

The main historical sight to see in Alcamo is the 14th Century Castle of the Counts of Modica - which is identified by its four towers, and also well worth a visit is the 18th Century Alcamo Cathedral, which houses a number of works of art from famous Sicilian sculptors and painters. The city centre also has all of the supermarkets, shops and amenities that are required for a self-catering holiday, so those that simply want to relax with a glass of wine on the balcony of their Alcamo holiday villa will find it easy to stock up on supplies.

Some of the best bars and restaurants can be found at nearby Alcamo marina, where you can sit outside with a dish of local produce and a glass of Sicilian wine, and enjoy the fantastic views and usually-excellent weather. The local beach is just a short distance from the marina, and there are several other beaches to be enjoyed along the picturesque coastline.

Aqua Calda thermal baths are popular with both locals and tourists, and have a hot pool which is a constant 40C. The thermal waters are both relaxing and therapeutic, and there are also colder pools to cool off in. Another visitor attraction in the local area is the Zingaro Nature Reserve, which covers 7km of rugged and spectacular coastline.

A wonderfully relaxing place to stay and be pampered.

5 of 5
We spent eleven days in Sicily and drove around the whole island finishing up in Alcamo for our last four nights. It proved to be a tranquil oasis with the loveliest of views towards Castellammare del Golfo. Our hosts were attentive and extremely helpful, pointing out places of interest and introducing us to the delights of Sicilian cuisine. A beautiful place showing Sicily at its very best.

Exactly as advertised!

Perfect place, perfect time. End of May is the best time in Sicily, I guess. Already very hot but not unbearable. Villa is located few steps from beach and sea. Inside even better then on photos. Beach equipment (umbrellas, seats) provided. Very quiet, all you can hear is sea and birds, and train but just few times a day. Beds very comfortable, kitchen got everything you need. Verandas both in front and rear of the house, very useful for staying in the shadow. Beach is very "raw", I mean there is plenty of wood and other stuff including rubbish but it's easy to find good spot. Water very warm and clean, perfect for children as shallow seabed go for at least 100 m. Not much in neighborhood, but it was another plus for us. Bar "Cafe Pazienze" in walking distance, open every day, all day, providing with coffee, arancini, brioche con il gelato and plenty other delicious things. Be nice and they will charge you less. Also in walking distance, Restaurant Sunshine, decent pizza, also take away but after 8PM. In Alcamo not much to see, Castellamare del Golfo absolutely gorgeous. Owner, Fabrizio - very helpful, very nice. I will happily stay there again.
