Make a holiday apartment in Agugliaro your home away from home

If you’re hunting for a holiday apartment in Agugliaro then you’ll be able to browse a range of rentals on HomeAway. It’s a lovely place if you want to get away from it all, with idyllic countryside for walks and bike rides. There are also elegant cities to visit, like Venice, Padua and Vicenza, boasting volumes of history and interesting sights. Holiday homes in Agugliaro are mostly rustic stone buildings, set in hilly terrain, in remote locations, with vineyards and woodland all around. Agugliaro apartments also let you make the most of the outdoors, with barbecues and large gardens perfect for summer evenings.

Things to do

-Local history. Important landmarks are dotted across the landscape here. Agugliaro lies within a UNESCO World Heritage Site preserving the work of Andrea Palladio. Villa Saraceno is a perfect example of a 16th Century Venetian villa, with a simple and restrained design, in the neoclassical style. There are other impressive villas and palaces by Palladio’s Venetian peers to seek out across the countryside.

-Cuisine. A key ingredient in many dishes in the Veneto region is polenta, which is served with cheese, meat and fish. Not far from the coast, seafood is also a staple, especially cod, cooked locally with parmesan, garlic and anchovies. Agugliaro is next to Colli Berici, one of Veneto’s wine regions with a DOC, producing a range of reds and whites.

-Nature. Agugliaro is tucked between the Berici and Euganean Hills, two areas of low-lying mountains featuring vineyards and woodland, and easily explored on foot. The Euganean Hills are protected as a regional park, and feature large swathes of oak forest and grassland. The trailhead for many walks in the Berici Hills, both invigorating and light, is the nearby town Barbarano.

-Excursions. The town of Vicenza is essential for its UNESCO listed 16th Century architecture by Andrea Palladio. Among the many sights is the Teatro Olimpico, the world’s oldest covered theatre. Padua is also a matter of minutes by car, and is known for its religious buildings, with an array of basilicas and chapels, including the Srovegni’s Chapel, with 14th Century frescoes by Giotto.

-Venice. This city’s sublime architecture and romantic setting hardly need introduction. It’s a large ensemble of 600 year-old buildings, crossed by canals, and easily reached from the village of Agugliaro. You could visit instantly recognisable landmarks like the arcaded Rialto Bridge, dating to 1591, or head for the Piazza San Marco and the spectacular Saint Mark’s Basilica.

Weather in Agugliaro

Agugliaro holiday homes are in an area with a continental climate, which means cool winters and warm summers, as well as quite a high level of humidity. Between May and September there’s lots of warm weather, with daily temperatures from the mid to high-20s throughout the season. Autumn and spring weather is mild and damp, with more rainy days in these seasons than winter or summer. The coldest month is January, when daily highs reach between five and ten degrees and lows normally drop below freezing at night.

Travel to Agugliaro

Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) is about an hour from the village of Agugliaro. It’s one of the busiest airports in Italy and you can get here from a number of cities in the UK with a range of airlines. Driving from Venice, you can use the A4 before taking the SS247 at Vicenza. If you’re travelling from another city in Italy then you can use the stations in the nearby cities of Padua or Vicenza, which are linked to destinations across northern Italy, including Milan and Bologna.

Charming host a few niggles

4 of 5
We stayed at the converted bakery for 11 nights. The outside of the property is adjacent to the road in the centre of Ponte de Barbarano. Inside is a large grassed area with the owners house to the side. On the far side is an events venue open onto the grass, all within the property. We were warmly greeted by Silvana and made very welcome. We were treated like one of the family. The apartment is adequately furnished and is comfortable. For me, quietness is important so I was surprised that a wedding party had been arranged one night at the events venue. Silvana was very apologetic for the noise. Also there were four large fan units for the air conditioning for the adjacent shop, restaurant and office that form part of the group of buildings, adjacent to our patio door, table and chairs. It was noisy at times to sit at the table or on a lounger due to the fans and subsequent whining noise from the units. The music for a book signing party on another evening ended soon and we went out that evening so were not disturbed further. Silvana had some of her friends back after the signing and on our return we were warmly invited in. A little irritation of the apartment was that the bathroom was small with a shower to one side with no cubicle so the water made most of the floor wet. Silvana was such a charming friendly host it feels bad to mention the issues arising but we felt somewhat unprepared for what we found. Further information on the site can be found on their website or Facebook. Look up Villa Sangiantofetti Rigon

A great week at ai Celtis

5 of 5
My wife, daughter and I really enjoyed our week at ai Celtis in June 2018. The accommodation was excellent - in a beautiful stone building, spacious, comfortable and cool in a week of high temperatures. We loved eating in the sheltered courtyard surrounded by greenery and colourful plants and flowers. We were very well looked after by host Loretta who brought us a delicious breakfast every morning. We used the apartment as a base to visit the nearby Euganean Hills (good walking trails), Padua, Vicenza, Venice and the thermal spa at nearby Abano Terme. All in all a memorable week and we were very sorry to leave.
