Make a holiday rental home or villa in the Aeolian Islands, Sicily your home away from home

The Aeolian Islands, also known as the Lipari Islands, are a volcanic archipelago just off the northern coast of Sicily. The main islands of the Aeolian Islands are Salina, Lipari, Alicudi, Panarea, Vulcano, Filicudi and Stromboli. Being volcanic islands, the Aeolian Islands have some of the most rugged and beautiful landscapes in the Mediterranean, with steep cliffs, deep caves and volcanic peaks offering stunning views across the sea over to Sicily.

Things to do in the Aeolian Islands, Italy

There is a massive amount to do from an Aeolian Islands property. The beaches are of course a huge draw to Aeolian Island property, but you could enjoy a hugely active and entertaining holiday without ever touching the beaches too. Each of the Aeolian Islands has beaches worthy of boasting about, from the tourist beaches of Lipari to the secluded, deserted beaches of Alicudi, a wonderfully natural little island, free from roads and settlements. Snorkelling is an excellent way to explore the seas, and scuba diving can be arranged for all levels of ability.

Water sports are particularly fun from a self catering Aeolian Island holiday rental. The amazing underwater world the surrounds the Aeolian Islands makes it a stunning destination for scuba diving holidays, and there can be no better way to explore than by sailing, taking your own route around the area, stopping off in idyllic bays and at secluded beaches, which appear to have never been touched by a human hand! The fishing is exceptional too, allowing you to catch your supper to cook in your self catering Aeolian Island property.

The islands are known for their historical interest too. Remnants from Greek and Roman civilizations can be found, the oldest of which are found on Alicudi and Filicudi Islands. The Archaeological Museum on Lipari is a fantastic starting point for any historical exploration of the Aeolian Islands. Lipari is also the home to some fascinating Roman baths and a Roman sauna cave, which really must be seen to be believed!

Places to visit on holiday to the Aeolian Islands, Italy

Lovely villa in a great location in Salina.

5 of 5
We stayed in this villa for the first week in July and had a fantastic time. We have stayed in alot of self catering apartments over the years with our children but this was one of the nicest. The villa itself is lovely with good furniture, comfortable beds, nice paintings and everything that we needed in the kitchen. There is also a very nice patio and table and chairs where we sat out in the evening. It is in a great location about 10 minutes walk from the main port in Salina and beside a bus stop for the bus that goes around the island and close to several small supermarket shops and delicatessens. Salina itself is also fantastic. We loved the relaxed atmosphere in the towns and the food was very good everywhere we went so would definitely recommend this villa to anyone looking for a relaxing break and also Maria the owner was very helpful if we needed anything.

Perfect location for a relaxing stay on Stromboli

5 of 5
The house is just wonderful, very well kept, clean and with plenty of grgeous views. To be on your own private terrace but literally just steps from the water was perfect. Almost too many terraces to choose from. ;-) The next supermarket is about a 15-20 minute walk away, but they do deliver your stuff for free if you buy there before 1pm.
