Make a holiday rental home or villa in the Aeolian Islands, Sicily your home away from home

The Aeolian Islands, also known as the Lipari Islands, are a volcanic archipelago just off the northern coast of Sicily. The main islands of the Aeolian Islands are Salina, Lipari, Alicudi, Panarea, Vulcano, Filicudi and Stromboli. Being volcanic islands, the Aeolian Islands have some of the most rugged and beautiful landscapes in the Mediterranean, with steep cliffs, deep caves and volcanic peaks offering stunning views across the sea over to Sicily.

Things to do in the Aeolian Islands, Italy

There is a massive amount to do from an Aeolian Islands property. The beaches are of course a huge draw to Aeolian Island property, but you could enjoy a hugely active and entertaining holiday without ever touching the beaches too. Each of the Aeolian Islands has beaches worthy of boasting about, from the tourist beaches of Lipari to the secluded, deserted beaches of Alicudi, a wonderfully natural little island, free from roads and settlements. Snorkelling is an excellent way to explore the seas, and scuba diving can be arranged for all levels of ability.

Water sports are particularly fun from a self catering Aeolian Island holiday rental. The amazing underwater world the surrounds the Aeolian Islands makes it a stunning destination for scuba diving holidays, and there can be no better way to explore than by sailing, taking your own route around the area, stopping off in idyllic bays and at secluded beaches, which appear to have never been touched by a human hand! The fishing is exceptional too, allowing you to catch your supper to cook in your self catering Aeolian Island property.

The islands are known for their historical interest too. Remnants from Greek and Roman civilizations can be found, the oldest of which are found on Alicudi and Filicudi Islands. The Archaeological Museum on Lipari is a fantastic starting point for any historical exploration of the Aeolian Islands. Lipari is also the home to some fascinating Roman baths and a Roman sauna cave, which really must be seen to be believed!

Places to visit on holiday to the Aeolian Islands, Italy

Beautiful house with stunning view

5 of 5
We arrived a bit earlier and the cleaning stuff was still there. The responsible lady was very friendly and made it possible to leave our luggage in one room. Our first impression of the hugh property was really good. The house is exactly how it is shown in the pictures in the internet. It is very clean and well maintained and full equipped with everything you need in your holiday. The big terrace is the most beautiful place. We loved it to sit there for breakfast or dinner and enjoy the amazing view over the sea with the islands Panarea and Stromboli. The property offers many different lovely places to sit and just relax. The only negative issue which might be worth to mention is the traffic light infront of the house. It is situated approx. 150 metres from the house. Since we slept with open doors we saw the traffic lights also in our bedroom. Malfa is a lovely little village with some nice restaurants and bars, two boutiques, a bakery, a butcher and a supermarket. You will get there everything you need. We (two adults with two children) enjoyed our stay very much!

Incredible views & beautiful apartment

5 of 5
We had the most amazing time at Casa Marta. The views from the apartment are stunning. The apartment has 2 private terraces - one with amazing sunsets and the other for an endless sea view. The apartment itself is massive for 2 people and beautifully decorated in a semi bohemian style. We ate in for half of our stay and the property is definitely well The only small issue was the shower flooding on one occasion (we had not read the notes properly on the wall which highlight the filter will require emptying every day or so). It really was the perfect romantic retreat. We will definitely be visiting Salina again next summer. Note you will need a car/moped to explore the island fully.

Stunning views from beautiful terrace

4 of 5
The views are five star. The accommodation 3-4 star. Wonderful stay but very expensive for what you get. Lovely beach a short walk away. Don't bring heavy suitcases, steep steps to get to the main road.
