Wonderful stay in Acorn Cottage

5 of 5
We had an idyllic few days in Acorn cottage over the Easter holidays. Jens and Michelle were perfect hosts, the cottage was beautiful, comfortable and spacious and the location is in what must be one of the nicest spots in Ireland. Our children (7 and 5) loved skimming stones in the lake, challenging themselves to take a dip in the bracing water and generally exploring the outdoors. On sunny days, we ventured to the beaches (St. Finian's and Rossbeigh) and the high passes (Ballaghema, Gap of Dunloe) and on rainy days holed up with a fire reading books, playing games and going out for pancakes (Strawberry Field). What's not to like? We will definitely be back...

Ideal family vacation

5 of 5
Wow! Our stay surpassed our expectations. I wanted a house in Ireland to celebrate my father-in-law's 75th birthday. We had 3 families and this house fit us all comfortably. The decor and style were designed with care and taste. The views of the lake and summer sun were majestic. We even got out onto the lake in the kayaks (be careful when windy). The location is ideal—close to several outstanding golf courses; quiet, serene setting overlooking the lake; less than 10 minutes to town; and it’s well situated for day trips to so many places. The town of Killorglin maintains the charm and sense of community of an Irish town but also has a very nice choice of restaurants. Our favorite was Giovannelli (Michelin recipient). Our family travels quite often (my wife is a travel writer) and we see and experience many places. Jens’ Caragh Lake House is one of our absolute favorites. It helped make a family celebration special—one that will not be soon forgotten.
