The house is on a rather busy road a short walk to the main historical sights and rickshaws can be hailed right outside the door. Each of the three rooms has a very big bathroom and the breakfast was delicious!
One evening when we were feeling too tired to go back out to a restaurant, Jonny himself went out and got us a take-away! They were both there at 5 a.m. to make sure we got off ok for our early flight home.
Having just returned from a simply fantastic holiday in Kerala, it’s with pleasure that I give this review of the Pavana Villa with some background to its location and some advice that may be of help, should you be considering Kerala in the future.
Pavana is situated in Eramalloor about 40 minutes Maximum by taxi from Kochi (Cochin) close to the MK Convention centre a great landmark for Taxis. It’s not a tourist area which we found a great advantage as you really get a true taste of India. The owner Silvester could not be more attentive he was in regular contact with us, our house boy (Beju) not sure of spelling and driver Varghese to ensure all was running smoothly during our stay and gave us assistance on Bank and ATM usage which was a great help. Bedrooms at Pavana are fully A/C which is essential, bedrooms and bathrooms were fine with no complaints in that area. There is also a local store next door for the essentials like Milk, Cold Drinks etc but for anything substantial you would need to visit one of the many supermarkets on the main road, some walking distance and some short Tuk Tuk ride.
The upstairs rear veranda was essentially an area to hang washing and could do with a little attention to smarten it up but for our purposes was not a problem. The upstairs Front Veranda and down stairs area outside the entrance hall became our collection points for drinks after our evening meal – very pleasant and in the early mornings a great place to see a variety of bird life.
We had overnight stays at Thissur visiting temples which was great and the tea plantations at Manur, much cooler in the hills plus Elephant rides which were most enjoyable. We would also recommend 2 nights on a houseboat out of Alappuzha – most still call it Alleppey one of the highlights of our trip but beware of any extras on board like Lobster, Crab etc which cost you extra.
Our one comment to Silvester was that he needed to review the utensils available in the kitchin, a small thing but annoying when you can put your hand on the right thing whilst preparing a meal – Silvester said that this would be attended to and I am sure he will do this asap.
There are many restaurants within easy reach of the Villa, most have an air conditioned section and we used one 3 or 4 times for Take Aways (delivered to your door) but would highly recommend the Ginger House Restaurant in Jew Street Cochin – The Tiger Prawns are superb!
Hope you enjoy your stay at Pavana and thanks Silvester
