Make a holiday villa in Vassilikos your home away from home

Vassilikos, a village found in the south-eastern reaches of the Ionian island of Zakynthos, is loved by holidaymakers thanks to the fact that it boasts some of the island’s best views. It also is endowed with some spectacular beaches which are more peaceful and arguably more picturesque than the other Zakynthos beaches. This is why holiday homes in Vassilikos are the automatic choice for most visitors to this part of Greece. Besides the stunning white-sanded beaches, Vassilikos offers convenience in the form of nearby shopping outlets and entertainment in lively local bars where traditional Greek music is played and danced to. Holidaymakers residing in Vassilikos holiday rentals won’t struggle to find places to eat; they’re numerous tavernas here. HomeAway presents tourists with a good selection of holiday villas and apartments in Vassilikos. These are situated in quiet, green areas commanding incredible sea views.

Things to do

-Beaches: Vassilikos has its own beach, which a number of tourists have rated as the best in Zakynthos. It is carpeted in soft white sands and is one of the more quiet places on the Zakynthian coastine. Those looking to enjoy the 30 plus degree sunshine will find sunbeds there on which they can bask hours away. Not far is the Banana Beach whose waters are ideal for swimming; safe for even the kids to take a dip. It is quite a busy beach though, dotted with tavernas, bars and ice-cream vendors.

-Water sports: A coastal holiday cannot be complete without a bit of water sport and at the Banana Beach visitors will find all they need for surfing including delicious winds. They will also find diving centres where they can get gear and instruction for scuba diving expeditions. Though the marine life is nothing to write home about, sites such as the Keri Caves and The Arch offer a thrilling experience. The extreme sport of base jumping has also found a home in Zakynthos and so the more daring can find an outlet for their adrenaline with a jump.

-Natural beauty: As they hike through the lush green countryside of Zakynthos holidaymakers will discover why the Italians called the island ‘Il Fiore del Levante’. In spring the landscape comes alive with colour as a rich variety of flowers blossoms. Visitors will want to leave the comfort of their Vassilikos holiday homes to explore the feature-laden Zakynthos coastline. Along the way they will find the awe-inspiring Blue Caves and the isolated Navagio Beach which hosts a captivating shipwreck.

-Food and drink: There are a number of mostly family-run tavernas that adorn the Ionian shores and those staying in Vassilikos holiday rentals will rarely feel the need to cook. At the Kostas Brothers tavern they will be served traditional Greek specialities at very reasonable prices. The setting is very relaxing as the restaurant is surrounded by nice gardens and the owner livens it up by belting out Greek ditties. On Gerakas Beach is Nikos Taverna where mouth-watering grilled meat is served at interesting prices.

This was the first time we as a group have stayed in a villa, from the very first moment of arrival Dionysis made us so welcome, we were instantly impressed with the villa which is extremely comfortable, spotlessly clean, very well appointed and well equipt with modern appliances. Just far enough from the Kalamaki strip it offers stunning views of the mountains, watching the sun set on the horizon was a special time for us all. Dionysis his family and friends are most help full, we felt we came as customers and left as special friends, speak to the owners of the jet oil garage they run the horse and cart trips and will take you into town if you ask. The property is well maintained, has a modern feel but keeps with Greek tradition, extremely relaxing, with everything required to make our holiday most memorable, we had many late mornings and even later nights. We hired quad bikes to get around during the day, on an evening we would flag down or order taxis, for a few euros we could travel all around kalamaki, try Georgias restaurant, Masa, Zeppos, and Heavens Kitchen, good food at very reasonable prices. For a chilaxing few drinks try the Oceanic Chill out bar, Mojitos, Cave Bar and after a hectic day of sun bathing try Crystal beach hotel bar. An evening trip into Zante town is a must, the harbor is a must see, please search out our very good friend Dimitris at his tavern, for the best moussaka on the island and Zoe at Georgias restaurant in old Kalamaki for every traditional Greek dish. For your weekly shop try lidl 15 mins away, we BBQ d one evening their fresh food is excellent, for day to day items the supermarkets in town are reasonable, the jet oil garage 2 mins away sells water, milk and bread. The villa has no pool which was not a problem for us (this keeps the price of hire down)as we prefer the beach, you may however use any of the hotel pools if you wish, the hotels are more than accommodating and welcome old customers as well as new. Try crystal beach, gerakas beach and if water sports interests you banana beach, transport is available to banana beach. Laganas is the island hot spot which is a short taxi ride away, the airport is 15 mins away, we always get a taxi too and from the airport which saves on transfer times. To conclude we have holiday`d in Kalamaki twice/year for the last four years and Villa Moreti is by far the best holiday to date. Many thanks Dionysis.

It has everything you could need and we enjoyed our stay here. The only issue we had was a very noisy dog that lived opposite and barked all night which kept my mum awake as she slept on the sofa bed in the lounge.

From the moment we drove up the drive and were greeted warmly by John and excitedly by Ellie the dog we know we were going to enjoy our stay at Olive Tree Cottage. John cooked us a delicious home cooked meal the 1st evening we were there of - Greek Salad, spicy meatball, taziki, sun ripened tomato bread, pitta bread and lemon cheesecake (just the start of wonderful tasting home cooked goodies from John over the next week). From the terrace outside the cottage you have a stunning view over the olive trees and out across Lagana Bay. The steps from the terrace lead down to the lawn under the shade of lemon and Olive trees with a table and chairs. Next to here is the pool with a covered area, sun terrace, hammock, sun beds and pool. If you are looking for a quiet typically Greek style holiday Olive Tree Cottage is for you, it's very relaxing. It is ideally suited to a couple. We very much appreciated John's "little parcels" of home made/home grown goods (marmalade, croissants, saganki cheese, fresh figs). John made us feel as if we really were home from home, he advised us of places to eat locally - we tried and recommend Zepos. The trunk on the terrace contains an array of games and books should you want to use them. Ellie the dog loves to have company and would come most morning and evening to make sure we were ok, which as animal lovers we enjoyed. The lane up to the cottage is quite uneven and the drive very steep so we would suggest that a jeep or vehicle of similar height would be best - we did however manage in our hired Skoda fabia but it wasn't easy. On our last evening John had a BBQ for two friends who had come over from UK to help John with some ground maintainenance and asked us tp join them - once again John's cooking was out of this world - homemade garlic bread, greek salad, tomatoes with melted feta and Olive Oil (John's own oil), beetroot and onion salad, Jacket potato, bbq'd marinated pancetta chops,, chicken drumsticks, fresh large prawn, vegetable kebabs, calamari, followed by bbq rum banana/pineapple. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the only downside for us we only booked 7 days! If we could give 10 stars we would.
