Things to do

The Church of Panagia Megalochari:

Year after year, thousands of pilgrims flock to the Church of Panagia Megalochari. This church is one of the most visited in Greece, thanks to the story of a nun who found a 7th-century statue of the Virgin Mary when construction began in 1823. The idol can be seen to this day.

Pyrgos Village:

The village of Pyrgos is considered one of the most beautiful on the island, due largely in part to the thriving artistic scene. Marble streets and sculptures adorn Pyrgos, and the architecture is stunning. The School of Fine Arts is located here with artists selling their wares throughout town.

Kionia Beach

Just northwest of the capital, Kionia beach is an impressive sandy beach with a strong tourist infrastructure. Kionia is also an interesting site for those interested in ancient history; a temple dedicated to the gods Poseidon and Amphitrite as well as an ancient cemetery were discovered here.

Agios Romanos Beach:

Crystalline water and soft golden sand awaits visitors of Agios Romanos Beach. Traditional taverns that provide the tastes of Greek culture as well as impressive views of the neighbouring island of Syros make this a beach well worth visiting.

Tinos Town:

The capital of Tinos, Tinos Town, has enjoyed a rapid growth in tourism, thanks to the discovery of an icon of the Virgin Mary in 1823. The area known as Hora is Tinos Town's bustling centre with numerous taverns, shops, bars, and restaurants.

Dovecotes in Tinos Town:

These beautiful and intricately sculpted stone structures are found throughout Tinos Town. It is believed that the Venetians constructed these dovecotes with their geometric designs in the 18th and 19th century so as to attract flocks of pigeons. Today they lure tourists and locals alike and are a sight not to be missed.

Weather on Tinos

Tinos enjoys a warm and temperate Mediterranean climate. Summers in Tinos can often be hot, and the “meltemia” winds that come from the north provide relief. Rain is scarce during the summer. The average temperature from June to August ranges between 30-35°C. Winters are mild and relatively warm with frequent fog.

Travel to Tinos

Tinos does not have its own airport. The closest airports are in Syros (JSY) and Mykonos (JMK), both approximately 22 miles away. Tinos is reachable via ferry, catamaran, and hydrofoil from almost every major port in Greece, as well as Cyprus. Mykonos is a mere 30 minutes away via ferry and only 15 with a hydrofoil. Rafina can be reached in less than four hours.

Confortable, well appointed, excellent location with wonderfulf views out over the harbour to Syros

4 of 5
The property, Irish Mist, provided myself and my wife with a very comfortable and relaxing holiday in Tinos. It is located within a 5 minute stroll from the centre of Tinos (Chora). It had a spacious veranda with spectacular views over the harbour and Aegean with the Island of Syros in the distance - amazing sunsets viewed from the veranda every evening. Roxanne met us at the Ferry Port on our arrival and drove us to the property and explained all the facilities, the "Welcome Pack" was very much appreciated especially the chilled white wine. She pointed out the location of nearby tavernas, shops, supermarkets etc. There were three tavernas/restaurants literally just across the road from the property. We hired a car from Vidalis who were very helpful and reasonably priced. This enabled us to explore many of the remote parts of Tinos and we found some wonderful secluded sandy beaches and many very quaint villages to explore on foot. The weather was excellent with blue sky every day and temperatures of 27-30C - the air conditioning in the bedrooms was very welcome. Tinos in mid September provided us with a very quiet and relaxing holiday with very friendly and helpful local population. Perfect for sight-seeing and just lounging about on the many beaches.

A large family house on a headland with the most beautiful views imaginable.

4 of 5
We had a wonderful holiday - the house was very spacious and cool with fly screens throughout and there was more than enough space for 6 adults. The views from the house were spectacular and we enjoyed the terraces and other outside features , such as the barbecue, very much indeed. The property was clean and fully equipped and the owner was exceptionally welcoming and helpful. The road to the house is partially dirt track and partially concrete, which is normal for small roads on the island, so a 4 wheel drive car is very helpful. There is a small quiet cove immediately below the house which is great for swimming and 10 minutes walk away is the lovely Agios Romanos beach which was never crowded when we visited (September) and had a good friendly taverna with tasty food . TInos town is only a short drive away and has a big choice of restaurants and a small market. We would definitely recommend this property for anyone wanting a quiet getaway in a stunningly beautiful location. There is lots to do on Tinos, apart from swimming we enjoyed visiting the villages, walking the footpaths and eating the delicious fresh food. We would also recommend the Marble Museum and the Tinos town Archeological Museum -both are well worth a visit. Most of all we enjoyed watching the sea from the terrace and basking in a magnificent sunset every night and then, later on, stargazing at the vast sky above us.
