Tilos, Dodecanese, Greece - Tilos, the hidden gem of Greece.

Tilos is a small Greek island in the Aegean sea, 65km north-west of Rhodes bordering Turkey, and is largely unknown even to most inhabitants of its larger neighbours. It has over a dozen beaches and even in August you may have the sea or sand to yourself. Tilos is a must for any keen rambler with excellent walking opportunities, whether it is an all day climb to the Monastery of St. Pandeleimon or a stroll around Livadia Bay. It is also well known for the honey it produces and there is an annual honey festival on 13th August. If you want a get-away-from-it-all chilled out holiday destination without mass tourism, but with good local food and fantastic scenery, Tilos has it all, as well as an all-night bar in an abandoned village (which really is something to behold). Come and see us soon, you'll be glad you did!

A Little Piece of Paradise Found

5 of 5
Both my Husband and I have visited many Greek Islands during our "younger" years. Our 16 year old daughter wanted to holiday on a Greek Island and when looking we liked everything written about Tilos for her first Greek experience - no McDonalds, Nightlife, Irish bars with satellite TV and Sky Sports permanently blaring out - you get the idea! Oh, the other criteria from her was "it MUST have a pool". This immediately narrowed it down to one - Eden Villas, owned, maintained and looked after beautifully by Rob and Annie. We immediately booked . . . . . . 2 years in advance. It was so worth the wait though. Prior to our arrival Rob and Annie could not have been more helpful providing links to ferry companies and hotels in Rhodes and general information when asked. We arrived on a very hot sunny day and, as promised, Rob was waiting for us as we came off the ferry from Rhodes. He took us up to Eden Villas, having first driven round showing us useful places such as the ATM (they don't take credit cards, only cash on the Island), local supermarket (which was just superb) and good restaurants. We were made so welcome on arrival at the villa. It was meticulously presented and had absolutely everything we needed and more. Being so hot, the ceiling fans were very welcome and aided keeping the villa cool. Not a single bug came into the villa either. My Husband loves a BBQ and Rob very kindly set this up for us to use. Nothing was too much trouble. The villa was kept very clean and both Rob and Annie were attentive but without interrupting our privacy. They were also extremely accommodating and understanding in keeping their dog, Fergie, away during our two week stay, as both my daughter and I are fearful of dogs - this was so appreciated. The views from the rooftop veranda were simply stunning and the perfect end to each day was drinking a Metaxa and looking up at the stars listening to the Little Owls calling to each other across the valley. The swimming pool was very well maintained by Rob and loved by us all. All in all it was one of the best family holidays. Now we are two weeks away from Christmas, we still talk fondly of our holiday at Eden Villas. We would thoroughly recommend and will definitely return. Rob told us that when you arrive at Tilos you just don't want to leave, and he was so right.

Breathtaking setting and beautifully restored villa

5 of 5
From the moment you step up into the terrace, the view, the villa, everything about Melanopetra is simply breathtaking. Architect / owner Anna has done beautiful work in restoring what was once a ruin - keeping the exterior tastefully traditional, with a chic, minimalist interior which makes great use of limited space. Melanopetra is located in a tiny village and is surrounded by ruins and other little villas, and lots of tranquility. We were welcomed at the port by lovely local Haris who also rents cars, and runs the travel agency in Mandraki - he was super welcoming and accommodating, helping us with whatever we needed. Take a pullover as the evenings can sometimes get quite windy sitting on that beautiful terrace. The images are true to reality - you won't want to leave. Ever. We will definitely be going back.
