                Perfect relaxation

                5 of 5
Olous (and I'm sure the other 2 cottages) is the perfect place to stay for a get away from it all relaxing holiday. Everything about it was outstanding. It was absolutely spotless inside and out. On arrival a welcome pack had been provided for us and seriously there was enough food there for lunches/breakfasts for a good few days! Although the property was perfect inside, it was outside where it came into it's own - 2 sun beds, 2 deckchairs, 2 upright chairs, a table, a picnic table and a huge patio area for relaxing/reading in the sun. The sea is also just a few steps away and it is the clearest, most turquiose looking sea you will ever swim in. Make sure you bring snorkel gear (there are a few fishes around, although nothing spectacular) and beach shoes (it is very stoney, but I prefer that to sand). Across the bay is the former leper colony of Spinalonga which is well worth a visit (a very eerie place). This can be booked from the local guy just a few hundred metres up the road. There are about 9 or 10 restaurants and numerous gift shops of quite high quality all within 5 minutes walk of the cottage. We tried all the restaurants but our favourite for a combination of good food/excellent service and excellent value was The Carob Tree. Others did higher quality food but obviously you paid a premium for it. We were met by Ron, an Englishman who was lovely - very helpful and friendly. Christina booked us a taxi to and from the airport, again super efficient and the booking process was handled superbly by Natalia. We normally do much more active holidays but wanted to chill out and read for a couple of weeks for a change and we couldn't have picked a better place. We have already booked for next year - the first time we have EVER done that! We have explored a lot of Crete numerous times in the past so didn't bother with a car and it really wasn't necessary. Perfect!

                Magical

We spent a magical week at this cottage in Plaka. The view from the terrace is amazing, so secluded. The cottage has everything you need, and is just a short easy walk to the tavernas and small supermarkets in Plaka. There is an easy bus service to Elounda, for more shops and restaurants. The island of Spinalonga is well worth a visit. We found everyone in the village so friendly and helpful. We would definitely want to return again.

                Pure peace.

It was dark and very windy when we arrived and were met by Christina who showed us to the kolokitha cottage, and gave us lots of useful information. It wasn't until next morning that we saw just how stunning the location is. We could not have been any closer to the sea without being in it! We had many spe coal moments during our stay, early morning swims in crystal clear water with only the sound of goats breaking the silence, watching the little fishing boats returning with the days catch, watching a huge fireball moon rise over Spinalonga and send a Golden path out across the sea, seeing the island of Spinalonga lit at night, long lazy days spent on our terrace. The village is just a couple of mins. Walk where there is a small store selling essentials and some great tavernas where you can while away the time people watching. Christina and Lela were like little secret squirrels cleaning and changing linen and towels regularly. Some words of advice, invest in rubber swim shoes, the stony beach is not comfortable to walk on. The kitchen is compact and lacking in equipment for serious cooking, but we easily overcame this by improvising and the bar-b-q was great. We certainly came home feeling rested and would love to return!
