Voidokilia Beach is said to be one of the most beautiful in the whole of Europe, and there is a huge amount of competition, and can be reached in just minutes from a self catering Pilos villa just 2km away. Water sports absolutely thrive in the region, with the warm, clear Mediterranean waters providing the ideal conditions for swimming, scuba diving, sailing, deep sea fishing, wind surfing, water skiing and occasionally, surfing.

With a region so steeped in folklore, there are a handful of amazing sites worth exploring on any Pilos holiday. The stunning towns of Methoni and Koroni are just a few miles along the coast, and the site of Ancient Olympia is wonderfully accessible, but it is the legends that surround King Nestor that really interest visitors. Supposedly born in the village, the sensational ruins of Nestor’s Palace and Nestor’s Cave are certainly worth further investigation.

Very relaxed, cool in the heat

4 of 5
Villa Phoebe quickly felt like home to us. The bedrooms were quiet and cool at night with air conditioning, and the sitting room with overhead fan was cool and comfortable during the hot summer days. There were books for adults (all holiday houses should have books!), toys for the children to investigate and an outside shower, which was a huge hit. The walk through the village to the sea every day was good fun and gave us a great feel for the place. (Methoni is a real Greek town with a good, safe atmosphere and splendid beaches that are ideal for young children.) There wasn't a huge amount of space in the kitchen for storing or preparing food, but we ate out in the village most of the time so it didn't really matter and the kitchen provided everything we needed when we did eat at home. Also, we didn't actually use the top garden in the end, except for drying clothes - it just wasn't that practical with small children - but we used the terrace by the entrance a lot for breakfast and lunch, and that was fine. Nigel and Fiona were great hosts and we felt they really took us to their hearts, going out of their way to help us with our queries and arrange taxis etc., which we really appreciated. We'd recommend their properties to anyone wishing to stay in an authentic Greek village house with the assurance of English-speaking assistance when / if you need it. Thanks again guys and hopefully see you another time!

Lovely place

5 of 5
We had a great holiday. House is brilliant for families - lots of space and a garden for kids to play. Family who owns the house is very helpful and nice. House was clean and the kitchen had a wide range of utensils. Lots to see and do in the area. I would return tomorrow : ).
