The Peloponnese, the most southerly point region of Greece stands out among Mediterranean holiday destinations as a location with something to suit all travellers. It is a mythical, rugged land, covered in mountains, where the air is filled with the aroma of the Mediterranean and the sounds of local music.

Places to holiday to the Peloponnese, Greece

Nafplion is known as one of the most romantic holiday destinations on the Argolic Gulf. The beautiful Venetian architecture is overshadowed by the domineering fortresses which guard Nafplio’s coast. Of the three main fortresses, the Palamidi Fortress is the most impressive and is certainly worth investigation when staying in any of the accommodation in the Peloponnese.

The Taygetus and Parnon Mountains are stunning regions, and those looking to explore the natural habitats, nature and beautiful landscapes of the Peloponnese, are an essential destination. There are a range of well marked walking and cycling trails, and jeep hire available for off-roading.

Travel to Peloponnese, Greece

Many travellers staying in villas in the Peloponnese fly from the UK direct to Athens International Airport (ATH), and then catch a bus to Nafplio, Mycenae or Corinth, depending on the location of their holiday accommodation.

Kind hosts, comfortable house, beautiful sea

5 of 5
Thanks to Nick and Jina for being such great hosts, ferrying us to and from the airport and filling us in on the area. Even making a stop so we could stock up on groceries. The house is as described, very comfortable and functional. The view is fantastic and nothing beats waking up to the dawn over the sea and far mountains. We loved swimming in the beautiful sea, especially near the cliffs at Zaga Beach and sometimes at the beach at the far end of town. We stayed two weeks and became regulars at Kaggalarios fish restaurant and the Break-Time coffee shop. Nice folks, very warm. As we didn't have a car, we were pleased by the well stocked grocery, complete with fresh veg and and very good butcher and deli counter. A visit or two to the castle and the monastery is a must. All in all a lovely laid back holiday. Thank you!

Arcadia

This is an extremely well kept property in a lovely part of the southwestern peloponessos You can see it is more than an investment for the owners as there is really a properly equippped kitchen where you can cook and even bake should you fancy it Nice rustic crockery, fluffy towels and additional pool beach towels are plentiful There are even herbs growing outside the kitchen and Charles and Ellie who look after the place give you a welcome stock ( eggs, milk, butter water - even a complimentary bottle of very good (ktyma mercoury) wine ). They are English which might give reassurance to people who do not speak Greek or are familiar with Greek customs. Most importantly they are a lovely couple and very helpful who have lived in the area for long enough to know it inside out What s not to like? Nothing really it might be too remote for some being 3 Km s up a mountain ( we felt perfectly safe and enjoyed the view), the drive is steep and may scare some and the master bedroom door needs a bit of joinery as it does close not fully Ow it s perfectly maintained in a virtually untouched part of one of the most striking provinces of Greece( olyimpia 15 min, bassae 30 min, pylosnetc also close even my stars doable as a day trip) close enough to Patras should people decide to drive
