Make a holiday rental home or villa in Ligourio, Greece your home away from home

Ligourio is a small village in the foothills of Mt. Arahneo, in the Argolis prefecture of Greece. The main reason that visitors head to this quiet part of the country is to visit the famous amphitheatre at Epidavros, which is just 3km from the centre of Ligourio and has been hosting events since 3BC. Taking in an evening performance is a must, and if you stay in Ligourio accommodation you have just a short journey to make in order to get home at the end of an enjoyable and unique night.

Things to do in Ligourio, Greece

Ligourio has been inhabited for many hundreds of years, and the remains of the town walls of the ancient settlement of Lyssa can be seen nearby. The area is great for an easy walk or an energetic hike, and you will find that the surrounding landscape is dotted with olive groves, walnut trees and fruit trees – a far cry from more built-up cities and tourist areas elsewhere in the country. The other common site in this religious part of the world is churches. There are literally hundreds of tiny churches and other religious buildings dotted around the countryside, making for some fantastic photo opportunities.

The biggest attraction in the local area is the amphitheatre at Epidavros, a ten minute drive away. The theatre has seating for 14,000, and regularly hosts drama and comedy events, especially during summer evenings, when crowds come from many miles away to enjoy a performance under the stars. The theatre is renowned for its outstanding acoustics, and even if you are seated in the furthest corner of the venue you are sure to be able to hear with absolute clarity.

Within the centre of Ligourio village are a decent array of amenities, including small shops, a bank, a post office and a few cafe-bars. More of the same can be found a short distance away in the port of Epidavros, and a wider selection still can be enjoyed in Nafplion.

Places to visit on holiday in Ligourio, Greece

As previously mentioned, Epidavros (Epidaurus) is just a short distance away, but there are several other towns and villages also within close reach of Ligourio. One of these is Nafplion – another ancient town of sheer beauty, which was the first capital of modern Greece and is today still the capital of the Argolis prefecture.

Weather in Ligourio, Greece

Summer temperatures in Ligourio can become very hot, with the mercury often rising above 30C. This is also the busiest time of the year, and if you would rather stay away from the most intense heat and tourist crowds, consider a visit during the quieter seasons of spring or autumn, when the weather is warm and pleasant without being overbearing.

Flights to Ligourio, Greece

Athens International Airport (ATH) is the main international airport in the country, and is around an hour and a half drive from Ligourio. Although some public transport options do exist, the use of a car is strongly advised in order to get to your Ligourio holiday rental accommodation and to explore this rural part of Greece.

Out of this world experience!!!!!!

After a long internet search for a beautiful property to host our family reunion (18 people), I was amazed by the pictures of villas Epidavros. To my surprise, the owners called me and explained that the photos do not do justice to the place and that if we finally decide to go they will make sure our holidays will be unforgettable. I thought this was a sales pitch of course.... Little did I know that everything I was told was true - and much more.... First, the area is a paradise; the villas are built on the hillside overlooking the village of Ancient Epidavros and the blue bays ahead, you feel like being in the sky and looking down upon the fertile land of Argolida and the immense blue sea.... Korinthe and Piraeus are just across the sea, behind the small islands, you think you can reach out your hand and catch them... Olive and orange trees surround the property - these freshly squeezed orange juices are the sweetest way to start your morning. The villas are built not only with quality materials but also with a lot of care, everything is being thought of, from the kitchen appliances to the board games, from the barbecue to the beautiful infinity pools and manicured garden. The villas are really spacious, clean, equipped with everything a house should have, you feel at home immediately... And the best of all: the owners - best representatives of the real Greek hospitality, genuinely taking care of their guests and convert them into friends for ever.... Mrs Keti, Mr Soulis, Xristina and Panos become your extended family, their generosity is genuine and leaves you with awe. The location is ideal also, far from the noise but close to all amenities... We had only one problem: did not want to leave the place.... We promised to return again and one should keep their promises.
