Make a holiday rental home or self catering apartment in Lesbos (Lesvos), Greece your home away from home

The island of Lesbos (Lesvos) is a beautifully unspoilt Aegean Island of Greece, covered with forested mountains and lined with stunning cove beaches along the rocky, wild coastline. This is an island where you can genuinely get away from it all and enjoy the peace, have a sporting adventure or simply relax on the beach with the sun on your face. The warm hospitality and ancient historical monuments which adorn the island have helped keep flights to Lesbos full and self catering Lesbos holiday homes in high demand too. Lesbos is the third largest of the Greek islands, but has yet to be swamped with mass tourism, giving it a genuine, and very attractive culture, with village life remaining very much as it has been for centuries.

Things to do on holiday in Lesbos, Greece

Around the shores of Lesbos, Greece, are a huge range of beach types. The coastline is rugged and rocky, with inlets and coves covered in a range of dine sand, pebbles and rocks. Regardless of where exactly you take a self catering Lesbos holiday home, apartment or villa, you will never be far from the beach. Lesbos beach holidays are absolutely magnificent, not only due to your idyllic surroundings, but also due to the perfect climate and the clear warm and unbelievably blue waters of the Mediterranean, which allows swimming and a whole host of water sports to be enjoyed for a huge portion of the year. Snorkelling and scuba diving holidays particularly thrive from Lesbos holiday apartments.

The inland areas of Lesbos are a haven for lovers of the great outdoors. Known for its varied species of flora and fauna, Lesbos apartments are in high demand with walkers wanting to explore the pine-covered mountains, barren volcanic landscapes and coastal scenery. Lesbos is a hotspot for many bird species, and birding in Lesbos is a hugely popular activity. The flatlands on the southern tip are particularly good for birding in Lesbos, as there are many rare species of migratory bird which call Lesbos home for large parts of the year. There are an unlimited number of routes and paths through the island’s countryside, and the routes in the southwest of Lesbos, taking you through the marvellous petrified forest are among those not to be missed from a self catering Lesbos holiday rental villa. The hot-springs which hide throughout the interior of the island make walking extra special, as you can happily strip off and relax in the naturally energising waters as you discover them, returning to your self catering Lesbos apartment, villa or holiday home with a renewed sense of vigour.

Lesbos has a long and fascinating history. Throughout the landscape are a huge number of statues, fortresses, shrines, ancient water mills and mountain chapels to discover. There are two excellent archaeological museums, a folk museum and the museum of Traditional Arts and Crafts in Mytilini from which to get an idea of the history and culture of Lesbos before heading into the country to discover the monuments for yourself.

Places to visit on holiday in Lesbos, Greece

The island’s capital, Mytilini, is a large, bustling port. Although the town itself is not the most attractive, the seafront is delightful, with a 6th century Castle dominating the skyline, and two large harbours housing a huge range of yachts, from small rental vessels to vast, multi-million dollar ships. There are some magnificent historical sites to visit in Mytilini, from the Turkish prison to the Roman cistern, as well as a huge array of museums, galleries and restaurants. Mytilini is a fantastic place to start your historical and cultural exploration of the island from a Lesbos holiday home.

The tiny villages of Petra and Anaxos are both magnificent places to take a self catering holiday home in Lesbos for quiet beach holidays. With fine sandy beaches and quaint waterside restaurants and cafes, both Petra and Anaxos are idyllic spots in which to relax on holiday.

Weather in Lesbos, Greece

The climate of Lesbos is excellent. During July and August, temperatures can average well over 30?C for the month, with daily temperature peaks in the low 40’s not unusual. Monthly temperatures average over 20?C from early April until late October, giving Lesbos an extended summer season. If you are birding in Lesbos, the weather is good all year round, with temperatures averaging over 10?C even in the coldest months.

Travel to Lesbos, Greece

The opening of Mytilini Airport has meant that flights to Lesbos arrive direct, with no need to get a ferry from one of its neighbouring islands. Excel Airways provide a range of flights to Lesbos, but many of these routes pass through other Greek airports on their way. Mytilini Airport is an amazing place from which to take a flight, as you can take a dip from one of Lesbos’ beaches whilst you wait for your flight!

A stunning property in an idyllic location.

5 of 5
We have just returned from a wonderfully relaxing week at the Villa Molova. The property is very comfortable with lots of character and fantastically located a short walk from the centre of Molyvos, the harbour and the beach. There is plenty of great outdoor space with the option of sun or shade. We enjoyed having breakfast and lunch on the terrace and spending time swimming in and relaxing by the pool taking in the breath taking views. The village has a great choice of places to eat, all that we sampled with delicious food and many with fabulous sea views. The owners could not have been more helpful and made us feel very welcome as did all the people we met in Molyvos. Overall, it is a lovely friendly place to stay and we highly recommend it.

WONDERFUL SEA VIEW VILLA

5 of 5
My family and I had an incredible time staying in this place. The villa is such a beautiful and special place and we loved staying there. We also really appreciated (and visited) many of the recommendations provided by Katerina. We loved spending time in the house and especially the kids were impressed with the garden! The house is as beautiful as in pictures and the details are even better in person. The accommodation is clean, amazing surrounding area (flowers, trees, lighting), beautifully decorated and the location couldn't be better. Also the house was fully equipped with everything we needed (and more). I would definitely recommend it!
