Our week at Casa Sophia in mid May was just perfect. I don't think we've ever rented a more well-equipped house; nor a prettier one. Our hosts were great. They were available for directions and inspiration for trips around the area but we were otherwise unaware that they live downstairs. Pyrgos is a very traditional village complete with friendly cafe/bar just a short stroll from the house. We loved the terrace; amazing starry skies and sunny lazy afternoons.
We like simple, unsophisticated holidays. This property perfectly fitted the the bill. Whilst everything was basic it was also very comprehensive. Everything that we needed was there and Dimitri (excellent English!) could not have been more helpful.
It has a rather tight lane access so if you've got a large car be extra careful - I scraped the wall on arrival! Very quiet, good views with the sea just tantalisingly around the corner.
About 10-15 minutes walk takes you to Livadi beach which has fine shingle and virtually no-one there - we saw three people in a whole week. Livardi has a Taverna - not by the beach - it was recommended for cheap good food but on our arrival at 5.0pm for a Thursday evening drink and meal, we were met with locked doors and absolutely no-one about. Waited in vain for 30 minutes then drove over to absolutely entrancing Sampatiki which has the nicest - and cheapest taverna in the region - right on the quiet, beautiful beach and harbour.
All in all, it can be said that the house perfectly matched our simple tastes - it was not the Ritz, but was comfortable and relaxing. Excellent for reading, relaxing, eating (under the most effectively shady garden tree), and enjoying the odd glass of vino.
Highly recommended. Thanks Dimitri.
