Make a holiday villa in Kalamaki your home away from home

Zakynthos, or Zante, as the Venetians knew it, is an amazing Ionian island that has been inhabited from the Neolithic Age. The island was fought over and conquered by a number of kingdoms including the Ottoman Turks and the Venetians. More recently it was dominated by the French and the British. All these reigns had an influence on the island’s architecture and culture as visitors will find out. While based in Kalamaki holiday homes visitors can explore the rich heritage of Zakynthos as well as marvel at the beauty of its coastline. Kalamaki is situated next to sublime stretch of protected beach where holidaymakers can enjoy the glorious weather. The holiday villas in Kalamaki offered by HomeAway are a few metres from the beach and command breathtaking sea views. They also come with features such as swimming pools and barbecues.

Things to do

-Beaches: Right in Kalamaki is one of the most popular beaches in Zakynthos. This slice of coastline stretches for six kilometres and provides a beautiful sense of serenity for visitors who go during the off-peak. It is a protected area and visitors may get to spot the odd turtle waddling through the sand. There are smaller picturesque beaches which, while not the best for basking, provide some stunning scenery. Navagio is cut off from the rest of the coastline by walls of sheer rock and has an iconic shipwreck stuck in its sands.

-Outdoor activity: With the abundance of daytime entertainment venues here, there will rarely be a dull moment for tourists in Kalamaki holiday rentals. The Fantasy Mini Golf in Tsilivi promises a day of fun for travelling couples or the holidaying family. There they’ll find a miniature 18-hole course where they will pass hours without knowing. The kids will forever be grateful after taking them to the Tsilivi Water Park and letting them scream themselves hoarse while gliding down water slides. Go-kart facilities are also available.

-Hiking: Upon venturing inland, visitors will discover that Zakynthos is blessed with gorgeous green landscapes. This is thanks to the abundant rains that shower this island every year. There is a trail that starts from the picturesque Gerakas Bay and leads up into verdant hills. At Alikanas there are stables from which horses can be procured for horseback rides through vineyards and olive groves and quiet villages.

-Museums: Zakynthos is dotted with lovely Greek Orthodox churches such as the Agios Dionisios which is actually an ecclesiastical museum situated in the town centre. Here visitors will find icons from the Monastery of Strofades and participate in the church services as it is still a functioning sanctuary. Another museum those staying in Kalamaki holiday homes will be interested in visiting is the Aristeon Olive Press and Museum where they can learn the A to Z of the pressing process as well as come away with some oil to use at home.

Weather in Kalamaki

A few weeks after spring arrives temperatures in Kalamaki rise into the twenties and visitors wishing to take advantage of off-peak prices and the less crowded beaches can book their Kalamaki holiday homes for May. The weather steadily gets warmer as summer approaches and by the time it’s July average highs are at 31°C. Rainfall, by contrast, becomes more and more scarce. But it begins pouring again in September. Autumn visitors should therefore prepare for possible showers, despite the still warm temperatures. The rains increase until December as the temperatures plummet to the teens to usher in winter.

Travel to Kalamaki

With this locale being only 2 miles from the Zakinthos International Airport, visitors will have no problem getting to their Kalamaki holiday villas and apartments upon arrival. Seasonal flights and charters to this airport are available from most European cities on a number of commercial airlines and low-cost carriers. While taxis are available from the terminal, the €12 they charge for a journey of a few minutes may be deemed exorbitant. Some find it more pennywise to hire a car they can use for the duration of their stay.

Clean, tidy and compact villa with lovely pool in superb location

4 of 5
Having the living area outside is lovely in fine weather and so unusual. The views are stunning from the terrace and being able to bbq with that view ...............Everything you need is provided in the little kitchen but mostly we bbq'ed or ate out The aircon in the bedrooms is great and not too noisy. The tv system outside took a bit of working out but Roy is quick to answer any questions and sort things out. At the end of the day we wanted to watch the world cup and normally wouldn't have bothered with tv. It is a peaceful location, barring the obligatory neighbours dogs barking, but this is commonplace in Greece and you get used to it. The villa is in an idyllic spot and really handy for visiting other parts of the island. It is a pleasure to return each day and have a dip in the pool (which is very well maintained). The neighbours were very pleasant and although they were renovating their house, they were not intrusive. Roy and Sandy have a wonderful villa in a great location

Christos & Villa are delightful

5 of 5
We had a lovely 2 week stay at Harmony Villas from 14th -28th of June ,Christos is a lovely host & nothing is too much trouble for him . The beds have lovely clean comfy mattresses & bed linen & towels were changed 3 times in the 2 weeks ,the villa was also cleaned on those days. It has everything you could possibly need for your stay in a nice setting & has electronic gates. It is just like the photos very spacious ,plenty of wardrobe space with lots of hangers . Lovely bathroom with corner shower it really is a home from home very clean it makes it a great place to stay .We enjoyed our time here but you need a car if you want to see all the Island it's a beautiful Island . Thank you Christos for making our stay most memorable Best Wishes Dorothy & Andrew
