                                                                                      5 of 5
Our family group consisted of my wife and I together with two our grown up children and partners. Our first impression was instantly favourable - the layout, situation and views are superb, the separate bedrooms with own balconies and showers, suited our family group very well. The master bedroom has an en suite and toilet and the bedrooms upstairs shared a toilet; there is an additional toilet downstairs. The kitchen is well designed and you could easily make meals or a BBQ to eat outside or in. The glass wide glass doors in the sitting room slide open to make the patio area instantly accessible. There is a shaded area for eating and relaxing. The swimming pool was excellent for family activity and fun and the patio area perfectly adaptable for entertaining and relaxing. After a day's touring it was always a pleasure to come back to the villa for a swim and rest. Kournas is a traditional Cretan mountain village, quiet and authentic; there are three tavernas as well as local cafes and a small shop, bakery and pottery. Local honey, bread, wine and ceramics can be found in the village. It is less than a ten minute drive away from the more touristy Karos with its long beach and amenities, and there is the unusual fresh water lake of Kournas nearby where you can swim. We walked the Imbros gorge in about 2 and a quarter hours, leaving the car at Imbros and returning by bus from Chora Skafion after a welcome swim. We would recommend leaving early to avoid the heat and have the impressive gorge more or less to yourselves and the goats. The White mountains are a fantastic backdrop to the villa and village and there is no noise apart from the tinkle of goatbells. We had a truly lovely time and found much to enjoy in the area. Thanks Chris for a special place which we will long remember.

Weather in August is great in Crete, near excellent, clean and equipped beach. Location of the villa is unique - Lake Kournas village with the same name (by the way, absolutely no mosquitoes) between Chania and Rethymno - around a lot of interesting places to visit. The villa is equipped with everything necessary. Special thanks to Marcos and Chara for the warm welcome. We will be back here again!

This is a home away from home. The owners are a wonderful couple, and nothing is too much for them. Having been guided into the villa from the National Road at Georgioupoli, by the owner travelling in convoy, we had a home cooked meal waiting for us in the oven when we arrived and a stacked fridge, all totally unexpected. This was followed up with other treats, all home made, throughout our stay whenever they popped in for pool maintenance or cleaning. Such was their company that we invited the owners to dinner one evening, and had a lovely time sat out by the BBQ eating, drinking and chatting for some hours. We did our bit to keep this picturesque villa looking a pretty as it does by watering the plants each evening - we felt it only right as otherwise so much could have died, and Crete has been suffering from a prolonged dry period. Lazy days by the pool, relaxing and comfortable evenings listening to the night wildlife, watching the bats, star gazing and enjoying the company of our family made this the perfect holiday. We even got to watch some of the Olympics when we felt like a change of pace in the evening. The resident cat had kittens - which we fed, and wanted to bring home with us - just helped make this villa feel even more homely. A car is a must - the local taverna is the other side of the valley, and to get out for shopping is a drive. The nearest neighbour is about 500m up the track. The taverna serves a very limited menu, but the food is delicious and cheap. It was so good we went there 3 times in our 2 weeks out there. It is a real locals place, and we were the only tourists there, abd were made to feel very welcome. Without doubt, we will be back.
