Make a holiday rental apartment or villa in Evia, Greece your home away from home

Evia, in the Aegean Islands, is the second largest island in Greece, also known as Euboia or Euboea. Surrounded by stunning beaches and littered with traditional little villages, a holiday rental property in Evia is an ideal location to escape to at any time of year. Whether you are looking for complete peace or roaring nightlife in the evenings, Evia can provide both. Evia is a very popular holiday destination with Greek holidaymakers, with luxury villas and top class restaurants in good supply.

Things to do on holiday to Evia, Greece

Exploration of Evia, Greece, would take many weeks from a self catering Evia holiday rental villa as there is simply so much to see. Almost every one of the tiny villages adorning the island has large attraction to investigate from the caves of Paleochora to the monastery at Rouvies, the Frankish Fortress at Orei to the curative springs of Gialtra. These are not the only curative waters or spa resorts in Evia, and if you would like to indulge in a little pampering during your stay in an Evia villa, there are plenty of options to choose from. There are a number of excellent archaeological museums in Chilkida, Eretria and Skyros, which display some remarkable artefacts.

The beaches that surround the island are excellent for spending lazy days in the sun. The soft sands and warm, still waters of the Aegean Sea are a blissful combination, especially on the beaches of Nea Stira, Kimi and Agios Georgis. Water sports are very popular from Evia accommodation, especially sailing, wind-surfing and scuba diving. Deep sea fishing trips are easily arranged from the larger towns of Evia too.

Evia is also a haven for outdoor activities. The steep mountains and rolling foothills are ideal for walking, mountain biking, mountaineering and horse riding holidays. Villages are connected by ancient stone paths passing tiny, isolated churches and impressive Frankish castles. There are many excellent routes for walking, riding and cycling, especially around the famous Dimosaris Gorge. Travelling through the island is a genuinely special way to explore both the nature and culture of Evia, stopping off at traditional tavernas for a refreshing drink or meal, and visiting some of the more remote mountain villages.

Places to visit on holiday to Evia, Greece

Chalkida, Evia’s capital, has an enticing mix of ancient monuments and cosmopolitan facilities, and is most likely your first contact point with the island. There are numerous attractions within the city from the ruins of ancient temples to medieval fortresses as well as some of the finest restaurants in the whole of the island.

Weather in Evia, Greece

During July and August, hot conditions drive most visitors to Evia accommodation directly to the beaches and the sea, as daily peak temperatures soar well into the mid 30’s (?C). Walking, riding and mountain biking excursions thrive during the spring and autumn as the sting has been removed from the heat of the height of summer, yet temperatures still regularly reach 30?C during the day from May until mid-September.

Travel to Evia, Greece

In order to get to a holiday rental villa on Evia you must first catch a flight to Athens International Airport (ATH). Athens is served by flights from both London and Manchester (MAN) on British Airways, easyJet and Olympic Airlines. Upon arrival in Athens, it is an hour by road to Evia, which is connected to the mainland via a large bridge, or if you would prefer not to take a hire car during your Evia holiday, there are ferries, busses and even a rail connection.

Staying in the country house is like staying in a garden Eden. We arrived there after 3 days of sightseeing in Athens, and it was such a contrast: the fresh air, the cool water, the trees full of olives and lemons, the peace and quiet... We spent the whole first day just relaxing, exploring the property and meeting the horses, peacocks, chickens and rabbits. Dimitis is a wonderful host and the country home truly feels like a home! It is wonderfully decorated, everything you could possibly need is there, the kitchen is very well equipped. We loved our stay (we stayed 4 nights), and are considering returing because it was so beautiful. Delphi is an easy 1 1/2 hour trip away, and even the cloisters of Meteora are doable (3 hour drive though). We enjoyed seeing the monument to Leonidas at Thermopylae, and bathed in the hot springs. It looks like a good hiking area as well. Thank you so much Dimitris for the wonderful time we had at your beautiful county home!

HIDDEN TREASURE

5 of 5
We (myself, wife and two grown-up daughters) stayed at Little Stone Cottage for a week in April 2018. We were blessed with wonderful weather which enhanced the spectacular views from the property. The property is maintained and equipped to a very high standard and the locality was very peaceful and, while we were there, 'non-touristy'. We didn't see another British tourist all week! We thoroughly recommend guided walks from Nico, a delightful chap with in depth knowledge of local nature. We will return (frequently) The Camburn family
