Make a holiday home or villa on Alonissos, Greece your home away from home

The small, yet perfectly formed island of Alonissos has so far been relatively untouched by tourism, giving holidaymakers the unique opportunity to experience the rare and authentic Greece. Alonissos is an Aegean Island, situated in the Aegean Sea, east of mainland Greece. It is the third and smallest of the Sporades group of islands, after the more well known Skiathos, and Skopelos. With little in the way of mainstream tourism here the best way to experience the island is to rent an Alonissos villa or holiday home.

Things to do on holiday on Alonissos, Greece

Alonissos is the perfect location for families and couples who want to sit back, relax and enjoy the sun! Once you’ve found your ideal Alonissos villa or holiday home to rent you might not want to leave it, whether you’re on a hillside overlooking a village and the sea, or right near the beach. The beautiful pebble beaches are one of the island’s highlights, and at less than 3 miles by 12.5 miles exploring the island is quick and easy.

When you do fancy a day or evening away from your Alonissos villa, head to the village of Alonissos (known locally as Chora). Set on a hillside the views are picture perfect and you can enjoy some authentic Greek souvlaki in one of the local tavernas. The port of Patitiri nearby is a little busier, and is your entry and exit point to the island. Alonissos is situated within the Alonissos Marine Park, the largest of its kind in Europe. Keep a look out from your Alonissos villa, or the beach, for the local population of Mediterranean Monk Seals.

Places to visit on holiday on Alonissos, Greece

Alonissos is just 2 nautical miles from the neighbouring island of Skopelos, and a little further from Skiathos, putting these two islands within easy reach of your Alonissos villa or holiday home. Both islands are busier than Alonissos, and the main attractions are the beaches.

The weather on Alonissos, Greece

Visitors to Alonissos villas and holiday homes can enjoy long, hot and dry Mediterranean summers, even though you’ll be located on the Aegean! August is the hottest month but with the typical northern winds that come at this time of the year holidaymakers can benefit from a refreshing breeze which keeps the air temperature down a little and prevents you from getting too hot! Temperatures are also mild during the winter and there’s moderate rainfall during the winter too.

Flights to Alonissos, Greece

Being a small island Alonissos does not have its own airport. The closest airport is on the nearby island of Skiathos which can be reached via many charter airlines during the summer. From Skiathos there is a ferry service to Alonissos which takes about 1.5 hours. Alternatively you can fly to mainland Greece, and catch a ferry from Thessaloniki. Although the ferry crossing will be longer you may have more choice for flights at different times of the year.

Such a peaceful, beautiful location

5 of 5
A wonderful, traditional villa with views of the beach and sea from the terrace, facing the daily sunrises. Manos and his family could not have been more accommodating - so helpful and good with the children. The gardens are filled with flowers and fruits and vegetables, the villa simple but well thought out and practical. The location... Wow! We'd love to come back. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

A special place

5 of 5
The villa is set in a beautiful location overlooking the sea. Every detail has been carefully considered and combine to make this a relaxing stay. The villa is tastefully decorated and everything that you would want in a villa is included from the kitchen equipment through to the pool and lounge. The host was kind and thoughtful and helpful in providing information, assisting with travel arrangements and recommending restaurants and local sights to visit. We would heartily recommend this villa for a peaceful, restful holiday which will give you memories to cherish. Liz and Graham Bailey
