Aghios Nicolaos, Messinia, Mani Greece - "Still Alive! - Romantic and Peaceful Greek Fishing Village"

Aghios Nicolaos (also spelt Agios Nikolaos) in Messinian Mani is perfect for couples and families alike. The beach of Pantazi is a flat 1km walk - there are bicycles to hire if you prefer or take the Beach Bus which travels through the village and around to nearby beaches and villages all day during the season. Beaches are anything from stony through to silky sand. Pantazi is gritty sand. One can also swim from the village itself from Vesuvios Taverna via a ladder. You don't need to partake of anything at the village restaurant, but after a swim, it is hard to resist! There are at least 6 other tavernas in the village, so you can have a change every evening. There is nothing much to do here except eat and watch the world go by.

Aghios is a living Greek village - its harbour full of fishing and pleasure boats. You can be sure of a good fish meal any evening. An internet cafe - if you need to keep in touch and a cafe with free Wireless Internet connection if you bring your laptop. There are two small shops for general provisions and a butcher has just opened up, too. With the vast Taigetos Mountains falling down to the crystal clear and unbelievably blue waters below; it really is like a picture postcard. It's the kind of place you thought no longer existed but here it is - magical!

Agios Nikolaos has become a well-developed tourist town in recent years, and a large draw for visitors is the many small sandy beaches around town and the clean sea. Beautifully Presented Villa with Lovely Sea Views

5 of 5
We had a wonderful holiday in this lovely villa located in the pretty village of Lefktro, near Stoupa. The property was very clean and comfortable, and beautifully presented. There is a spacious lounge/diner, a shower room and a well equipped kitchen leading out to an attractive courtyard garden – a lovely place to sit with your morning coffee! The upstairs accommodation comprises a generous, airy double bedroom leading onto to a large terrace with superb sea views, two smaller twin bedrooms (one with doors on to the terrace), and a bathroom. We enjoyed the leisurely stroll down to the main beach in Stoupa, which took about 15 minutes. The property is very well situated for the bakery and supermarket, but when you are filling up your trolley bear in mind that the last part of the walk back to the villa is a bit on the steep side! It might be worth considering hiring a car, but if you are reasonably fit it is not essential. Stoupa is a wonderful location for a relaxing summer holiday. There's lots to explore in the local area, with plenty of good restaurants to choose from. I would highly recommend hiring bikes and taking the coastal cycle path to the quaint fishing village Aghios Nikolaos. Kardamyli, in the other direction, is also well worth a visit. Stella was extremely helpful throughout the whole booking process, and on arrival kindly met our airport taxi at the nearby supermarket in Stoupa so that we didn’t get lost on the last part of the journey. We loved this villa so much that we have re-booked for summer 2017!

Wonderful villa

5 of 5
We absolutely loved this really well presented and spotless villa with great attention to detail. Extremely well equipped with quality bed linen, towels etc.which are changed twice weekly. Set in lovely garden for relaxing and eating under the olive trees. The roof terrace was a favourite with views to the sea in the daytime and stargazing in the late evening. Villy provides so many nice touches - jams, honey, olive oil. She also kept in touch with us during our stay to make sure there were no problems which might spoil our stay at Sophia and Daphne. A wonderful and memorable holiday. Thank you. September 2016

Lovely villa, everything you need apart from comfortable chairs!

4 of 5
Lovely villa, has everything you need apart from comfortable chairs! You need a car to see the area, Stoupa is very busy but driving to Agios Nicholias is much better, lovely taverna and quiet beach, if that is what you are looking for. We travelled over the mountains to inner Mani, absolutely stunning, so worth going.
