Make a holiday rental home or apartment in Tempelhof-Schoneberg, Germany your home away from home

Tempelhof-Schoneberg is the recently created seventh borough of Berlin, and was formed in 2001 by merging the former boroughs of Tempelhof and Schoneberg. The boroughs are extremely diverse, with Tempelhof an industrial and housing area and Schoneberg a growing district of nightlife, restaurants, nightlife and entertainment. Together they combine to make a cheaper, but equally attractive, alternative to staying in the centre of this fascinating and historic city.

Things to do in Tempelhof-Schoneberg, Germany

Schoneberg is fast gaining a reputation as a trendy and enjoyable area in which to spend an evening out, and has a number of restaurants and cafe-bars to choose from. Many of these are in the Goltzstr and Viktoria Luise Platz areas - where they housed in the basement of attractive old houses. Drink and food prices are also noticeably lower than those of central Berlin.

The Schoneberg district makes for an interesting walk. Winterfeldmarkt is a popular market held on a Saturday (with a scaled-down version on a Wednesday) which has stalls of all kinds and plenty of bargains to be found. Those seeking something a little more upmarket should head to KaDeWe, the world’s second biggest department store (Harrods in London is first). A number of Cold War memorials can also be found lining the streets as you continue your walk.

Tempelhof is home to a large percentage of the holiday rental accommodation in the borough and offers close and easy access to Schoneberg. It is also the home of the now-closed Tempelhof Airport, which was once one of the largest buildings on earth, and today hosts occasional trade shows and other events.

Places to visit on holiday in Tempelhof-Schoneberg, Germany

There is a huge amount to see and do in the remainder of Berlin. Many of the top tourist attractions are in the Berlin-Mitte area, such as Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag Building and Berlin Zoo, as well as great restaurants and nightlife. The Brandenburg suburb is also well worth a look and contains many historical castles and gardens. With an excellent public transport system, the rental of a hire car is not necessary to make the most of your holiday in Berlin.

Weather in Tempelhof-Schoneberg, Germany

Summer temperatures in Berlin are extremely pleasant, reaching up to and over 25C some days. A holiday rental in Tempelhof-Schoneberg can still be enjoyed outside of peak season, as though temperatures are lower, so are the numbers of tourists and the prices for accommodation and attractions.

Flights to Tempelhof-Schoneberg, Germany

Though it is no longer possible to fly to the famous Berlin Tempelhof Airport, Berlin still possesses a further two airports to choose from. Flights to Berlin Tegel (TXL) and Berlin Schonefeld (SXF) can be found from all around the UK, and both are an equal distance from your destination – just a short journey by tram, train or bus.

Fantastic Apartment, great location

5 of 5
We loved this apartment from the moment we entered it, despite the hot July weather it remained nice and cool. The decor is really lovely and you can just imagine it being a busy bakery back in the day. It has lots of space and has everything you will need. Great kitchen and bathroom, well kitted out, comfy beds and spotlessly clean. Our 4 year old loved all the toys, but so did the older 2. The area is lovely, lots of parks and restaurants just steps away, we sat on the little bench on the street most nights after putting the kids to bed and watched the world go by while having a glass of wine or beer, its great for a coffee in the morning as well. The area is very safe and the metro is a few minutes away. We also used the bus to get back from Templehof. There is an excellent ice cream shop just up the street and an amazing kabab place around the corner, but the choice of food places is massive, the healthy place a couple of doors up was great. Lots of quirky little shops around the streets as well. The communication from Julia and the handover was very good and easy and I've got to say the citizens of Berlin are some of the friendliest people you will find anywhere. We took a walk up to Schoneberg town hall (1km) for the flea market on Saturday, the market was ok but it was interesting to see where Kennedy made his famous speech from the balcony. If your visiting Berlin you would struggle to find a better spot to base yourself. The technology museum is fairly close and really worth a visit, also the tour inside Templehof airport was brilliant. The Reichstag's Dome is a must, but you need to register and book before you go. (its free). The TV tower is great for the amazing views and the museums around museum Island are fantastic.I loved the German history museum because its a nice doable size, very well laid out and utterly fascinating. Julia, thank you for being such a great host, your place is fantastic. It was our second trip to Berlin, the last time was 10 years ago and much has changed in the that time. We'll be back, we'll try not to leave it so long next time but if you still have this place on the go we'll be looking you up. Greetings from Ireland!

Clean, quiet. Near supermarket and cafes. Slightly out of main city but public transport is great
