Make A Holiday Rental Villa in Swabian Jura, Germany, Your Home Away From Home

The Swabian Jura is actually the name given to the Swabian Alps, in the south of the country of Germany, leading up to the Black Forest. The highest mountain within this range reaches 1,015m and much of this part of Germany is on a plateau which is over 400m above sea level. Given the elevations above sea level here, this produces a micro-climate which makes it a little snowier than other parts of the country. Holidays in Swabian Jura are extremely popular due to the fact that this is such a beautiful part of Germany, surrounded by many interesting and historic towns to visit and plenty of different activities for you to indulge in.

Things to Do on Holiday in Swabian Jura, Germany

There is one activity that is available to enjoy on your holidays in Swabian Jura that can only be found in a few select locations across the world: fossil hunting. In fact, it is not unusual for people to find fossils on their own land here that can date as far back as the Jurassic Period (we’re talking around 180 million years of age!). There is even a museum devoted to this Palaeontological pastime: Urwelt Museum Hauff. Other activities to enjoy in Swabian Jura include swimming, canoeing and kayaking, nature walking, abseiling, spelunking, golf, mountain biking and fishing.

Places to Visit on Holiday in Swabian Jura, Germany

Heidenheim is one of the largest towns in this part of Germany and definitely well worth a day of your holiday to have a good look around. There are many museums here that will help you to better understand the history and culture of the area and these include The Roman Baths Museum, The State Museum of Württemberg (which is actually housed in Hellenstein Castle) and The Heidenheim Art Museum. Other towns to keep on your radar in this area include Tubingen and Blaubeuren. There are also at least 8 castles and their ruins to visit in this part of southern Germany and many historic churches and monasteries.

Weather in Swabian Jura, Germany

This will be especially pertinent during the winter months when temperatures can actually struggle to get above freezing. Summers are very pleasant indeed, with temperatures regularly hitting the low-twenties degrees Celsius mark or more.

A spacious, comfortable and well equipped property near to the shops and station. Ulm is less than 10 minutes away by train- very convenient. Maria and Hans were very friendly and helpful.

Fantastic location for seeing the best that Baden-Württemberg has to offer, especially if you like going on country walks. Hayingen is within walking distance from this holiday park, just note that the shops in Germany are closed all day Sundays. There are numerous car parks on arrival, the one nearest the site reception and restaurant is the most popular, but there are always spaces available. No cars are permitted near the cabins themselves, there are free trolleys to help you take your own shopping or luggage to and from your car to the accommodation. Inside your cabin, it is very peaceful, outside you only hear birdsong and may get an occasional 'Hallo' from another guest. With very high ceilings, it felt much more spacious than you'd imagine from the pictures. Very well equipped, the cabin has all the comforts of home, except a washing machine and clothes dryer (there is a communal washroom near the reception, washing machine tokens are purchased from the reception). For entertainment there is a radio, loads of German books, and a small TV, however English visitors should note that there are no English channels on the TV, but with free Wi-Fi (Both router and password are located in the utility room, located outside next to the back door) that isn't an issue. Wi-Fi signal was good throughout the entire cabin, and excellent in the Lounge and Dining Room, internet speed was good too. The restaurant on site also has free Wi-Fi (with daily log-in code available from restaurant staff on request). It should be noted that the lounge seating doubled as an additional 'pull-out bed' if required, whilst the Dining Room seating lifted up and had a wide range of games, ping pong bats, balls and jigsaws located under them. There is also a sun lounger on the deck and outdoor table and chairs there too. For winter guests there is central heating throughout, as well as a real fire, with fuel and kindling provided to get you started. In addition to curtains on all windows, the cabin also has shutters on the exterior, which are great for making the rooms darker, especially if you need a lay-in in the morning. As you are surrounded by nature, there are insects at night, and if coming by car in Summer I'd recommend bringing a fan. There is a children's play area, and games room and the whole area is safe without cars. During the day the park is very quiet and peaceful. The only things you need to remember are towels, duvet covers and pillowcases (80cm x 80cm).
