The region of Saxony-Anhlat is in the central north east of Germany and is one of 16 member states. It was formerly part of the Federal state of East Germany. The capital of the region is the beautiful town of Magdeburg. This scenic area is due in part to its location on the banks of the Elbe and Saale rivers and is at the heart of German history. The Reformation began at Wittenberg where Martin Luther taught at the university. Saxony-Anhalt includes the Harz Mountains and the Saale-Unstut region to the southeast of the mountains is dotted with castles. Further north are the fertile Magdeburger Börde and the Altmark heathlands.

Hidden Gem!

5 of 5
This newly decorated apartment lived up to our expectations. Beautifully decorated and well appointed with a contemporary modern approach. Every detail had been carefully thought through and we appreciated that - from the very comfortable box spring bed to subdued ambience lighting in the bathroom and the large screen TV with Sky Access and easy to clean kitchen/dinette. Two separate apartments are located above a restaurant which closes at 7pm. The shared balcony overlooks the lake and is hidden from view. An idyllic location off the beaten track. Perfect for rest and relaxation and one that we undoubtedly will be recommending to friends and family. We thoroughly enjoyed staying in the area exploring walking tracks through mixed deciduous woodland and open vistas across meadows. Beautiful countryside. A former copper mine tour is also worth experiencing and within walking distance of the apartment. The Sangerhausen Rosarium was also worthy of note and must be superb in June, July and August when in flower.

Fairytale house in a fairytale town

5 of 5
We stayed here five nights and could have stayed forever. It didn’t feel like a holiday cottage; it really felt like home. The house has recently been renovated (as eco-friendly as possible), and it’s uncluttered, comfortable and calm – a really easy place to be. The kitchen has everything you need to cook for yourself, which is handy in Quedlinburg where eating out can be expensive and you can find your holiday costs quickly mounting up. There’s a practical walk-in shower, great beds, and quality bedding and towels on tap. Windows flood the upper two floors with light, while also keeping sound out, so that although the cottage stands beside a church, you’re not disturbed by the chiming of bells. The owner is welcoming, friendly, and on hand to help if you need it. We had a wonderful time here and wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Thanks!
