There are many beautiful places on the North Frisian Islands with hiking, horse riding and cycling very popular activities that enable visitors to take in the views. Holidaymakers can try various watersports such as surfing, swimming and sailing. There are beaches ideal for sunbathing, kite flying or making sandcastles.
A number of activities can be done on the beaches ranging from boccia and beach volleyball, basketball and soccer to beach tamburello. Indoor sports include ten-pin bowling, skittles, billiards, darts and shuffleboard. There are also 18-hole golf courses on the islands with wonderful views of the meadows and beaches.
There are many bars, cafes and restaurants on the islands offering a wide range of eating options including some excellent seafood. A good range of shopping can be found on the islands with stores and markets for self catering holidaymakers to purchase food and drink. Plenty of gift and souvenir shops can be found on the islands as well as well as jewellers, fashion boutiques and furniture stores.
Places to visit on holiday to North Frisian Islands, Germany
Visitors can hop between the four larger islands, Sylt, Fohr, Amrum and Pellworm as well as the islets called Halligen. Guided tours take visitors through the Waddensea, which is a hike between islands in shallow waters. Day trips can also be taken to Denmark, where families can have fun at Legoland.
Sylt has several interesting buildings to visit such as the Altfriesisches Haus in Keitum. In the same village is the Local History Museum with its numerous exhibits of traditional costumes and silver jewellery. Other attractions on the island are a former duck-trapping site and a walk-in Stone Age grave located in Wenningstedt.

The warmest time of the year in Northern Germany is July and August when the average temperature is 22 degrees centigrade. Winters are cold with January averaging just 2 degrees centigrade during the day and -2 at night. Each month has quite a few days experiencing rain from an average of 13 in March and 18 in November, but showers in the summer tend to be brief.
Travel to North Frisian Islands, Germany
Visitors can fly to Hamburg Airport (HAM) and get a connecting flight with Air Hamburg or Sylt Air to Sylt Airport (GWT), on one of the North Frisian Islands. There are flights from numerous European cities to Hamburg including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Dublin, London, Moscow, Paris, Rome and Vienna amongst others. Sylt is also connected to the German mainland by the Hindenburgdamm, which is a causeway with a railway line on top. The passenger train connects Westerland to Niebull or Klanxbull. Passengers have the option of taking their car on to the train at Niebull.
