  • A really special house with fantastic views

This is a really well equipped house, with really good sized bedrooms. The main kitchen dining room is fabulous - beautiful views directly on to the river, plenty of room for us all to sit and eat. Particularly like the built in, island top grill. The large balcony was lovely for sitting out on and watching the barges and the boats go by. We received a friendly welcome and there's lots of information provided about the local area. The town of Zell itself is very pretty, with lots of lovely walks and a good selection of restaurants. We were also able to visit nearby Brenkastel-Kues, Cochem, Koblenz and Trier, so an ideal touring base. There are lots of good shops on the top of the hill on the opposite side of the river, and of course most important of all, the local Zell Schwartze Katze wine is delicious!

We were made to feel welcome by the owners from the very start of our holiday, with fruit, chocolates and wine waiting for us on our arrival and throughout our stay they were very helpful with local information, without being intrusive at all. The house and gardens were even nicer than they look on the photos, and they were both of a very high standard. As a base, Mastershausen had everything we needed with 2 good bar\/restaurants, and 2 small grocery shops and a bakery, and with the larger town of Kastellaun only 10 minutes drive away, we also had easy access to several supermarkets etc.The Moselle Valley itself is a beautiful place to spend a holiday, and we enjoyed visiting every part of it, and in particular Zell and Cochem. Koblenz is also worth a visit, and a definite must is Burg Eltz which we didn't even know about until Gunther our friendly host, suggested we visit.Talking of Gunther, I really enjoyed his evening visits where we somehow managed to converse with my very poor German and his non-existent English! Finally, and the jewel in the crown is the Hunsruck countryside which we were in the middle of. Just 2 houses away from where we were staying we had the choice of 3 footpaths which were part of a network of paths that criss-cross this lovely part of the country. As we do a lot of walking this was ideal for us. There was even an 8.5 mile circular walk round the outskirts of the village which we managed to do which was a real pleasure for us as we didn't see anyone else at all on the route. We'll definitely be back!
