Absolute perfection for slow living

5 of 5
The property is immaculate - it's clean, well presented, and incredibly well equipped. Everything is great quality too. The hosts who greeted us couldn't have been more helpful, even lending us their own bike. The freshwater lake is just a few minutes' walk and heavenly for early morning swims in the most beautiful setting imaginable, surrounded only by grebes and dragonflies, not a person in sight. There are 2 decent supermarkets about 15mins drive away & it's an easy 1hr drive from Berlin Schönefeld by car. The photos really don't do justice to how attractive it is and, as I found the online info confusing when trying to decide if this was the right place for us, I thought it may be useful to explain: Off the hallway there's a room with a TV and 2 armchairs, behind which is a dining table. Through an open doorway is the (supremely well equipped) kitchen with a breakfast table seating 4, and a table seating 6 outside on the patio. We ate every meal outdoors - the table is sheltered from rain by a roof and from strong sun by a retractable awning. On the opposite side of the hallway is another sitting room with 2 sofas where we could all sit together reading. (I think one of the sofas can be made into a bed, and is pictured as a double bed in the property images). Next to this is the first bathroom, then the master bedroom - effectively ensuite - and there's another WC in the hallway. My (elderly, mobility-impaired) parents had this double room (one bedframe containing 2 single mattresses as is the norm in Germany), which meant that aside from having to step carefully over the back doorframe, everything was flat level for them, as in a bungalow. Meanwhile my husband and I had the upstairs (roof space) to ourselves - a large bedroom and the bathroom next door. Our only disappointment was the twin single beds, but we wanted our own space and private bathroom more than we wanted a double bed (we could have made the sofa bed up downstairs, had we wished to). There's also a single bed in another room. I spent ages finding somewhere I could take my parents on holiday which would be accessible, and where we could enjoy ourselves just staying close to the house. This place was *perfect* -my husband and I could go running and cycling in the forest and swimming in the lake, we could take my parents to the quiet little sandy beach by the lake to watch the world go by or simply sit in the garden & watch the storks fly overhead and the black kites hunting.
