Hiking, cycling, climbing, nature-spotting, painting and photography are a great way to appreciate the delightful architecture and rolling hills of this area. Take the longest-running cable car in Germany from Gunterstal up the Schauinsland Mountain – a 3.6 km ride. Sports enthusiasts can watch SC Freiburg play a home match at the Badenova Stadium or the local ice hockey team play at the Franz-Siegel Halle. The wineries in the area are worth visiting if only to sample some of the sweet wines produced in this area. In Freiburg itself there is a local Feierling brewery with a biergarten for sampling local German ale.

The Munster or Cathedral is the heart of the historic city centre of Freiburg. With its towering spire it dates back to 1200AD. The Gothic Merchant’s Hall is another fabulous highlight and is covered in statues and coats of arms of the Hapsburg Emperors. The Old City Hall with its painted exterior is another must-see and dates back to 1559. East of the city, take a trip on the funicular railway up Sclossberg Hill to view the ruins of the castle. The extensive views of the area are well worth the effort. The Triberg Waterfall is one of Germany’s largest with a drop of 496 feet. It is just a short drive from Freiburg holiday rentals, along with the Black Forest Museum and the baroque pilgrimage church of Maria in der Tanne.

Super, very nice, clean nice apartment. The pool facility was fantastic, we swam every day.

4 of 5
We booked the apartment for 3 nights, and went to a concert in Meersburg on the 3rd day. The apartment was lovely, the pool facility was great. We cycled ( picked up from the camping site place) and cycled the island - we had eco-bikes Amazing - we have ordered 2 bikes for home! I think that it should be stated that there is no balcony - to go sit outside, we got a table and chairs and sat underneath the window to eat supper. Local Insel Cuvée wine is to be recommended. The local produce is amazing - fresh washed lettuce in supermarket! We had a great stay - Thank You Horst

INDIVIDUAL AND COZY, PRIVATE PLACE - AWAY FROM THE BUZZ

5 of 5
This is a fantastic little home for up to 4 people. Entry is into a private courtyard / garden, shared with the family next door. The place itself is a great kitchen downstairs, then up to the main living area and bedroom, with bathroom on the same level. Further stairs lead to a small mezzanine where there is a single bed, but a great sleeping area for 2 kids with the extra mattress added. The area is fantastic. Large and small 'beach' areas into the lake are within and easy car / bus trip or walk. Great pizza from a local place and easy to ride the 'free' buses along the nearby villages. Konstanz is about 15 minutes trip away. Yvonne was very friendly and helpful despite our lack of German language. It is all very private from the family next door, but she is there if you want to ask anything and sorted quickly any issues we had. Really a great base for a family trip
