We stayed four nights in this cottage which is relatively close to the motorway between Holland and Germany. It is a very spacious cottage, converted from an old farm building, in the grounds of a small hotel. The setting is very rural, and therefore peaceful. Nearest village is 2-3 km away. The cottage is furnished in a very traditional (old fashioned?) way, but has clearly been very recently modernised so kitchen and bathrooms are very well appointed. The three bedrooms are large and comfortable, each with its own TV.
The nearest large village/small town of Bad Bentheim has plenty of basic shops (e.g. K+K supermarket), plus a few eating places etc. as well as the castle (shloss) to visit. 50km away is Munster, which is well worth a visit.
I would recommend this holiday home for people looking for somewhere quiet, and comfortably equipped. Not, perhaps, so great for a young family looking for plenty of activities / company for the kids. We also felt it was quite expensive, particularly with the €100 mandatory cleaning charge, which we hadn't been expecting, and local taxes - if you're booking a holiday home in a country where you're not familiar with the language, make sure you understand all the charges!
Recommed to arrive at the reception during working hours. It may not be easy to find the house on your own reading the map. We arrived at the reception around 10PM. It was very dark. No person at the reception. The owner of the house instructed to find a box (and keys to the house in it) but it was not there. A guy from the emergency center, after calling here and there, found that the keys were somewhere else.
A great house which is situated inside a nice and quite camping area. Well equipped. Nice view over a small lake. Nice place to walk. A lot of vild rabbits running around (and their excrements for which I don't complain.) )
The heating system for the house at some point didn't work two times at night. The first time was easy, pressing the reset button solved the problem. The second time, it took some time and some calls to the emergency center and the house owner. But at the end we were able to take warm shower. )
The area was close to Holland and we crossed the broder on Easter and had lunch and shopping.
Don't allow your kids to play in front of the Church on Sunday when there is a ceremony. They will ask your kids to be quite or leave.
The camping area is managed by a company. They prepared some programs for the kids i.e. animation film, egg hunting and bonfire etc. which was nice. A small shop and restaurants in the area. It should be really good in Summer time. It was a good experience all in all. Thanks.
