Make a holiday rental villa or property in Yonne, France your home away from home

Yonne is one of the four French departments which make up the Burgundy region of France. It is a stunning rural region of rivers, forests and undulating hills where you can be as peaceful or as adrenaline fuelled as you wish. Producing fine wines and refreshing ciders, Yonne holiday rental villas attract wine connoisseurs from around the world, but a refreshing glass of Yonne wine or cider never tastes as good as it does when you find an idyllic viewpoint half way up a gruelling walk through the beautiful Yonne countryside.

Things to do in Yonne, France

The extensive canal networks which cross the department like a maze are a huge asset for tourism in the department. Exploring Yonne from the back of a canal boat is a wonderful way to see the department, and those lucky enough to be staying in Yonne accommodation near a river or canal can spend countless hours pottering up and down in a canoe or kayak, fishing or cycling along the path ways, exploring the surrounding area from a unique viewpoint.

The forested hills and undulating countryside is the perfect location for walking holidays, especially when you have the opportunity to stop at a viewpoint, open a bottle of local wine and relax with your picnic lunch before heading on into the hills.

As a department of Burgundy, self catering Yonne holiday rentals are often used as a magnificent base for wine tasting holidays. There are a huge number of vineyards in Yonne, including some of the world’s finest. Many wineries are open for tours and sampling sessions, and the Yonne tourist information office has information on which are open and how to contact them.

Places to holiday in Yonne, France

Chablis is the most famous wine producing village in world. It is a wonderfully sleepy place to stay, and services are closed for the majority of the week, but there are some remarkable cellars to tour, making Chablis an essential place to visit for anyone with an interest in wine.

The village of Vezelay has gained global notoriety due to the beautiful Benedictine Abbey of Vezelay, which has been declared by UNESCO as a world heritage site. The reason the Abbey is held in such high regard is due to the dramatic splendour of the building, and it is also meant to contain the remains of Mary Magdalene.

Weather in Yonne, France

During the summer, temperatures in the day routinely reach 30˚C, and there is little rain from May until October. Winters are relatively cold, although temperatures tend to remain above 5˚C.

Travel to Yonne, France

Reaching your Yonne accommodation takes just an hour from Paris, meaning you could be relaxing in a self catering Yonne villa within just a couple of hours of leaving home. Paris Charles de Gaul (CDG) and Paris d’Orly (ORY) both receive many cheap flights from the UK, or you could drive from Calais to a Yonne property in just a couple of hours.

A beautiful property in a lovely setting and would highly recommend

4 of 5
Pascal was very nice and hospitable and we were able to converse through an app he uses on his iPad. The house is beautifully situated in a small village which has no amenities but is very picturesque was not a problem. The property is as you see it on the photos and you won't be disappointed, and the pool is very private and has some small trees if you need to get out the sun, as it was very hot when we were there. The barbecue was traditional and a large enough area to cook for 8 of us no problem. Some tips that you might find interesting, St Florentin is about 6 miles away and is a straight Rd in. It has a nice feel to it and there are a few supermarkets which we tried and found ATAC was the cheapest and well equipped. We visited Paris for a few days and travelled by train direct from St. Florentin station. We booked a taxi to take us from the house to the station which was very expensive (about €23) and the return taxi never turned up. In hindsight we should have left one of the cars in the station car park which we were told afterwards would have been perfectly safe. So back to the property, there are 4 double bedrooms, although one of the rooms is accessed through one of the other rooms, but as we were family it was not a problem. There is only one toilet and it is situated downstairs so might be a problem for some. There is only one shower room with two basins so showering can be congested, however, there is a shower by the pool which we used also. The hot water does run out quite quickly but as the weather was so hot we had cool showers so was not really a problem. The kitchen was big and well equipped with a large table and 8 chairs. The lounge was spacious with a large tv. Overall I would like to have given this property 5 stars as we had an amazing holiday and spent so much time around the heated pool chilling out, and if I had the chance I would have given it 4.5 stars because I would recommend this property to anyone but realistically the reason I haven't given it 5 is the lack of toilet facilities upstairs and probably needed another bathroom, but thank you Pascal as you have a lovely house and pool area and the position is beautiful.

Charming house in a quiet village

5 of 5
A lovely and charming house in a very quiet village, but an excellent hub to explore the area. We were surprised we had access to the whole property instead of just a barn or granny flat, which makes it a great value for money offer. Our room was decorated with great taste, Dennis was easy to communicate with and very helpful with tips about places and villages around the area, so , quite a happy experience. So, if you want to explore the northern bit of Burgudy, I'd strongly recommend La ferme du Clos (it's in rue du Clos, hence the name) .
