Make a holiday rental home or villa in Vitrac, France your home away from home

The rustic village of Vitrac stands among the forests of Perigord Noir, just 5km from Sarlat. Located right in the heart of the most beautiful and historic region of the Dordogne, known as the ‘pre-historic capital of Europe’, Vitrac is the perfect base for exploring the castles, caves and chateaux of the Dordogne, not to mention the charming medieval market towns and stunning countryside the region is famed for.

Things to do in Vitrac, France

Family holidays to Vitrac are always a hive of activity. The whole area is crossed by footpaths, cycling routes and bridle paths, taking you through the forested hills and valleys to some of the more remote chateaux, cave and castles of Perigord Noir. Many days can happily be spent touring the countryside under the power of your own steam, and the beautiful Dordogne Valley is a wonderful place to fish, canoe or simply potter about on the river. Hot air balloon rides are a particularly special way to explore the region, and one which you will always remember with awe.

The region is also awash with public tennis courts, golf courses and even more obscure yet exciting facilities like aerial ropes courses for the fearless. Visitors can even enjoy paragliding from a holiday rental gite in Vitrac, which is a sure way to reinvigorate and excite during your holiday.

A holiday rental villa in Vitrac is the ideal place from which to explore the many marvels of the Dordogne. There is no need to organise your family each morning in order to make sure you can get to the stunning villages of La Roque-Gageac, Domme or La Roque St-Christophe, the Lascaux Caves or the castles of Baynac as all are within 20km, and remarkably easy to reach from Vitrac accommodation.

Places to visit on holiday in Vitrac, France

Regardless of how long you stay in self catering Vitrac accommodation, the huge appeal of Sarlat will be impossible to resist. Sarlat is not only the local capital, home to some of the finest restaurants, shops and galleries, but also looks like an open-air medieval museum. Sarlat’s medieval heritage is fantastic, with perfectly preserved buildings dating back many centuries providing the town with an almost fairytale atmosphere, despite being a thriving market town.

Weather in Vitrac, France

The summer months are an absolute joy in Vitrac. The period between late May and early October sees daily temperatures reaching a warm, yet not sweltering 28°C on a good day, and rain is extremely rare. The spring and autumn months are perfect for walking, riding or cycling holidays, as the rain remains infrequent, and daily temperatures are wonderfully balmy.

Travel to Vitrac, France

Bergerac Airport (EGC) is a small airport in the Dordogne, just 70km from a holiday rental villa in Vitrac. Surprisingly, there are a great range of flights arriving into Vitrac from airports throughout the UK including Exeter (EXE), Gatwick (LGW), Liverpool (LPL) and Edinburgh (EDI). A hire car is strongly advised if you are taking a Vitrac holiday property.

Maison de Montfort is perfect for the two.

5 of 5
Maison de Montfort was perfect for the two of us. The view of the chateau is truly magnificent and the village has everything you could want; a bar, bakery and beach! The house itself is well designed and equipped and very comfortable. Despite atrocious weather in the latter half of the week we were able to eat outside under a sturdy roof and enjoy the view and the birdsong.

All that we could have wished for and more

5 of 5
We had a fantastic two week holiday here. The property is stunning, has everything you need and is very comfortable and clean. Nice big beds, well equipped kitchen, UK TV channels and comfortable living room. The pictures really don't do it justice. Arnaud and his family were lovely and very helpful in making sure we were comfortable and that we enjoyed our stay. We had two dogs with us who loved the large and fully private and secure garden. We all enjoyed the walk down to the river right from the doorstep every morning where we had our very own secluded beach for the dogs to do some stick chasing and swimming while we watched the kingfishers and the canoes float by. It's a truly beautiful part of the world and the property is perfectly positioned to enjoy visits to the surrounding towns and countryside. Among the highlights were visits to Beynac, Domme, La Rocque Gageac, Sarlat and Rocomadour - all very close. We particularly enjoyed dining at L'Angelu's in Montfort where the owner cooked us an 'off the menu' special which was delicious. We can thoroughly recommend staying here, everyone is very friendly and we will certainly be back. Delightful and very sad to have to come home!
