Make A Holiday Rental Cottage in Vire, France, Your Home Away From Home

Holidays in Vire, France, are most suited to those Francophiles who have a grasp of the French language, and would like to get to know ‘middle France’ a little bit better. If you are after late night parties in a Mediterranean atmosphere, then this is not really the place for you! Self catering accommodation in Vire is all about getting a feel for living in the French countryside. Well equipped, cleaned and maintained, rental accommodation in this part of France takes the form of a cottage or gite, although if you choose to stay in the town itself, then an apartment would be more likely.

Things to Do on Holiday in Vire, France

Vire has developed quite a reputation as a culinary destination. So much so in fact, that it can be difficult finding things to do whilst not eating! However, there is a great tourist information centre that can provide leaflets and inside knowledge as to some of the best walks in the area. In addition, if your self catering accommodation in Vire has bicycles included, then you will be able to spend some lovely time cycling through the French countryside, stumbling across the odd tiny village or settlement along the way.

Places to Visit on Holiday in Vire, France

Vire suffered heavy bombing during the last part of the Second World War, and so historical buildings are a bit thin on the ground. A few do remain, and are worth a visit. These are a 13th century medieval gateway which has an accompanying 15th century clock-tower, and the Vire Church of Notre Dame with its Gothic styling. The tourist information centre in the town will be able to point more historical areas out. Whilst on holidays in Vire, France, it is obligatory to try Andouille sausages. These are a speciality to the area, and it is highly likely that if you are eating out, you will end up trying these more than once!

Weather in Vire, France

Being located in Normandy, Vire has a generally warm climate, although top summer temperatures normally peak at around the 25 degrees Celsius mark, as opposed to the much higher temperatures seen in other parts of France. The area is very green, which of course, is a good sign that it does rain here! That said, the sunny days easily outweigh the rainy ones, and on average there are only 8 days of rain a month. As most of these occur during the winter period, it will not affect most holiday makers. Winter temperatures have an average low of 2 degrees, although this can be variable, as indeed most of the world’s weather can be nowadays!

Travel to Vire, France

Travel to Vire in Normandy can be done in a couple of ways. Some people from the United Kingdom decide that driving over is the best idea, as this means that they then have a car that they can use whilst on holidays in Vire. The best route to use would be Portsmouth to Caen on the ferry. For others, it is easier to simply take a flight. Dinard (DNR) would be a good choice of airport to land at. Ryanair operates services from East Midlands (EMA) and London Stansted (STN).

Rural Normandy at its best

5 of 5
Very comfortable accommodation. Very friendly, helpful owners. Location was very rural, as we were seeking. So peaceful and off the beaten track. Yet no too far from nearest village and town. Plenty of interesting places of interest not too far away. Would recommend La Bouscaudiere without hesitation

This pretty little cottage is well appointed and extremely comfortable. It has everything you need to self cater and is well positioned to provide access to the historic sites of Normandy. Fine beaches are less than an hour away by car and the there are a multitude of scenic walks for the nature lover.
