We spent a week at Philippe and Aurelie's house in Villeneuve Lez Avignon in early September; we had superb weather and loved our stay in this relaxing house. The pool was great for cooling off and we ate all our family meals outdoors under the trees. The house was well-equipped for cooking. Villeneuve has outstanding sites of its own to visit - the fort, Abbey gardens, Philip le Bel Tower and Chartreuse monastery and is an atmospheric place with a great market on Thursdays. We walked to Avignon a lot but also used Bus Line 40 from Les Angles to the city walls to see the Palace of the Popes and other places, including Pont du Gard which was only a 25-minute bus ride away. Amazing river swimming under the historic Roman aqueduct.
Always anxious regarding booking somewhere new but we shouldn't have been. We had a great time and we all agreed best family holiday yet, really relaxed. The property is located in a pretty town with all we needed a few mins of walking down the road ( supermarket, tabac etc), with a short drive to town centre which was very pretty and had lovely places to eat. Avignon is about 25/30 mins drive, that was nice.
The owner was in communication with me pre the holiday which was reassuring ( excellent English !) and met us there, nothing seemed to be a trouble for him and left us with bits and pieces we needed to settle in after a long 18 drive which was much appreciated and a lovely touch. Pool was just right and we spent a lot of time in it, house very spacious, open and all mod cons. We ate outside on the patio which is covered, really pleasant. The photos do not do the house justice, the owner needs to do them again to really show off the house. Kids loved it. There were 9 of us (2 families) and that was probably the optimum amount. We had one couple in en suite, my wife and I in another room, and big kid on own in double ( all of these are downstairs). Teens were upstairs in a big room that is partitioned, they were happy and relaxed. We had a minibus that fitted in driveway, if you had 2 cars one would be out on road but is a cul de sac and quiet and peaceful so not a problem. Definitely would go back. Definite recommendation.
