  • On the Street Paris Lives
    5 of 5

This best thing about this home away from home in the amazing world city of Paris is it is smack on the hippest street in the city. Restaurants, cafes, shops - vibrant "real" Paris right outside your door. OK, bit of a climb up to drop your bags but once settled you can walk to Marais, Notre Dame, the Champs Elysees, the Louvre. Metro station around the corner. It is the Location Location Location pad. Quiet at night because the bedroom not on the street. And that street is French and you don't feel like a tourist. You can go local and you will find the French people are not rude but most often helpful - even in English! The famous Kayser bakery across the street for the morning fuel up. And those with the addiction can have their Starbucks Chai Latte, no foam, no water, extra hot, just a few feet away from the entry door. Jean-Francois is a highly professional host who is flexible, communicates in excellent English and very responsive. Not cheap but think of the saving compared to staying in an out of the way hotel with tiny room at the same price. After all that walking to historic sights, lunching and wine drinking you need a roomy place to crash and reboot and wash your skinny jeans for those who like to travel light. Stayed for only two nights but helped us "get" the Paris vibe from start to finish. Easy to access from Gare du Nord - short metro ride or reasonable cab journey.

  • The property is small but well equipped and very comfortable. It is also extremely well situated.

We had a great time in Versailles. We went to the Palace Gardens on several occasions, for picnics. We also explored the surrounding areas, going to Giverny to see Monet's house and gardens. We also drove to Chartres to see the Cathedral and we spent 2 separate days in Paris going by train. The station was only a 10 minute walk away. During our time there we also managed to squeeze in a day trip to Euro Disney, which we enjoyed despite the long queues. Overall we stayed for 10 days and we found loads to do in and around Versailles to ensure that we did not have any spare time to read the books that we had taken with us.
