Charming gite in a beautiful setting

4 of 5
Our seventh stay in this region of France in the last 5 years & Dompierre is undoubtedly the most picturesque village so far. We had excellent weather & were able to take advantage of the huge garden while the kids splashed around in the stream that runs alongside. The garden was a real bonus and sitting out with the church, a chateau and the river as a backdrop was fab. The garden furniture itself could do with updating as it's literally on its last legs. Having bikes was great too although a pump would have been handy. Our youngest (9) easily managed a 9 mile ride and the roads were very quiet (recommend Dompierre to Le Boisle south of the river & back via Labroye and Rapechy to the north). Traffic is very light through the village and the cottage was very peaceful. It did take a while to find as the dierctions say the cottage is behind a telephone box (which has been removed). Still, the village is tiny so we didn't have to hunt too long. The cottage itself was spacious for a family of 4 and packed with rustic charm. Sun streamed in and it was a pleasure eating at the kitchen table. The lounge was also comfy although we didn't need the fire. The kitchen itself is fairly basic but has everything you'd want to rustle up dinner. However, there is no freezer (something to consider if you're shopping on the way). The property was clean but it seemed that we were the first visitors of the year perhaps as it didn't have that lived in feel and the downstairs bedroom did feel a little damp. Inevitable by a river in April? The kids shared a room upstairs instead and they loved it (although the sockets seem to have been blocked and there were no lamps/lights in the room). All the rooms were comfortable and everyone slept well. We couldn't get the washing machine to do a spin but it was warm enough to dry things outside and although we didn't visit to watch TV, it was packed away inside a cupboard and not connected to anything. Not a problem for us but might be for some. We love this area and recommend Le Touquet and St Valery on the coast. We have stayed in Montreuil before and is well worth a ramparts walk. We visted Arras this time and that was a lovely town (don't miss the WWI tunnels).Overall, this was a charming, comfortable & enjoyable property, ideal for the fine weather. A bit of updating with a few of the facilities and it would be perfect. No hesitation in recommending and would love to spend another sunny week there.

A little piece of quiet tranquility

5 of 5
Just arrived home from 4 lovely nights stay and oh do i wish i was back there now, what a lovely peaceful retreat, and what charming people Irene & Norman are, not forgetting charlie the dog, who i could have brought home with me. Delightful little cottage and as cleaner place as i have ever seen, plus with all the mod cons you need. Easy reach of all the coastal towns of the somme estuary, and close for all the WW1 sites. I will return and will be recommending this to all my friends. Thank you for making us so welcome.
