Things to do on holiday in Vidauban, France

Walking the streets of Vidauban is an unforgettable experience. Quite aside from the sun drenched countryside which surrounds the village, it is the many beautiful 16th century buildings and monuments that give the town such a picturesque ambiance. St Brigitte’s Chapel stands prominently at the summit of a rocky crag, and the strains of the short walk up to the top are immediately forgotten when you see the stunning views right across the Maures Plain, the vast forests of oak and pine and the stunning Aille Waterfalls. On Sundays, the whole town comes to life as the Sunday market rolls into town. Not only is the market a great place to stock up on local delicacies, it is also a highly social affair, with the pavement cafes and little restaurants which surround the market doing a roaring trade.

There is nothing finer than taking a kayak or canoe down the River Argens from a Vidauban property rental. The river runs right through the village, and during the summer, you can hire boats of all variety, climb to the entry point beside the stadium and plunge down the channel for over 6km, taking in the finest sights of the area from an entirely new and refreshing point of view. Alternatively, for those who would like to stay a little dryer during their stay in accommodation in Vidauban, there are many excellent walking routes to try. The undulating, rugged limestone landscape on which the town stands is inundated with paths, picnic spots and viewpoints, making it ideal walking country. Walks along the Argens Valley, the Maures Range and the woodland of the Parasol Pines area all great places to walk, cycle or ride.

There is also a beautiful lake at Les Salles, which covers the flooded village by the same name. Sailing, windsurfing and a huge range of water sports all thrive on the lake, high above the old slate rooftops of the village.

Lovely house, well equipped kitchen, clean, tidy and comfortable. Outdoors perfect with balcony all around and weather perfect so outside all day. Per other reviews you do need car to get to any shop, which if worth knowing. Swimming pool a godsend but we did need to call Laurent a couple of times for cleaning, a result of warm weather and lots of water time!!

Wonderful holiday, beautiful Villa in scenic surroundings, with lovely welcoming hosts!

5 of 5
We stayed in Vidauban from 21st July - 4th August 2018. Our hosts Marie-Jo & Didier were really lovely, very welcoming and very understanding. Unfortunately we had very little French, and they too had little English, but with the help of translate we managed to get along fabulously. On arrival we had a Bottle of Wine and bottled water - very welcome - thank you. The villa is gorgeous, clean, with well kept gardens overlooking the mountains and vineyards. The only negative for us was the mosquitoes which we needed to get additional sprays for. The pool was ideal, our teenagers absolutely loved it, we were always in and out of it, and was always kept clean. The local supermarkets are plentiful and well stocked with local/international produce. We BBQ a lot on our stay, or cooked in house. When we went to the beach for the day we took our cool box with us for lunch. We went by boat from St. Maxime across to St. Tropez, our favourite beach was St. Maxime - got there early in the morning and then able to walk round the town when it got too hot to stay on beach, very pretty. We also went to St. Raphael and whilst there visited St. Grimaud, very pretty with harbour and nice shops. We also went to the Gorges of Verdon (as recommended by Marie-Jo) it has a freshwater lake which we swam in & took a pedalo up through the gorge, absolutely beautiful, definitely worth a visit. We also went to Monte Carlo & drove the Formula one circuit (as its the town) we like F1 so it was a real thrill for us. It's a beautiful place to visit, with all the yachts, and high rise buildings seemingly hanging from everywhere. On our way back we saw Nice & Cannes. Our last visits were to Entrecasteaux and Aups - very pretty towns, nice little shops of interest and plenty of place to eat & drink. We have had a really great holiday, mixing relaxing at the villa with days out. The scenery is gorgeous, mountains, vineyards, olive groves and cypress trees. Even the weeds looked pretty along the roads or in the meadows. It was lovely to see Marie-Jo & Didier's family and we hope that Marina & Anthony wedding day was everything they hoped it would be - such a lovely family. We hope to visit again, ideally when we can speak more french.
