  • Brilliant. A super stay tucked away in the pyrenean hills in a delightful village

Before we set off and in the months leading up to our break, I was very happy with the level of contact we had with the owners. Kay graciously and unsolicited provided plenty of details about the area, things to do and see and made some recommendations of what to do too. We arrived on a blazing hot Saturday afternoon in August, on the slopes of the mountains. As we drove through the very narrow winding streets of Rigarda admiring the houses, we rounded a corner to a beautiful, peaceful, planted up paved area next to the house. We were impressed. The setting was superb, the house is sympathetically modernised but keeps features of the older house. It was immaculately clean throughout too. Every room has a bathroom to itself and we never felt in each others pockets. The kitchen was well equipped and had a good store of dry goods, tea and coffee for guests. Plenty of crockery and cooking equipment to help cater over the week. Washing and drying facilities too. We spent some relaxing afternoons on the patio, enjoying meals and sunbathing. The local area has plenty to visit, it is not too far from the coast and if you are willing to drive there is much to be explored locally. Villefranche De confluent is close and is also near an underground grotto. The grotto was wonderfully cool in the summer and very popular! We also found the neighbours welcoming and spent an evening in conversation (in our rudimentary French) with them and the mayor, enjoying a beer. A splendid place, as a base, to enjoy our holiday at. We would definitely come again.

  • Lovely villa

The villa was lovely, well maintained and equipped and very clean. Lots of information supplied by Angela in advance. The villa had everything we needed for a great family holiday. We stayed for 2 weeks as a family of 4 with 4 additional family members joining for the second week. Plenty of space for all. The property in in lovely gardens and has a brilliant pool area so whether you want sun or shade you are spoiled for choice. The villa is a little further from Arles than we'd understood but proved to be a decent morning run or cycle to the town for the bakery run. Arles itself seemed typically french - quiet! The few restaurants in Arles did not seem appealing so we headed to nearby Amelie les Bains where there was more choice and a nice square of cafes. The scenery is stunning and there were enough activities to keep restless teenage boys happy. Local Gorges de la Fer is a nice cooling walk for a hot afternoon and an easy walk from the villa. We did Canyoning from Ceret with Oxygen Adventure which was brilliant. Also recommend Buggy Ride 66 further away in Ille-sur-Têt - Amazing tracks and views, a great way to see the area. We also ventured further away to Les Angles to use the gondola uplift for mountain biking - great fun but brutal. Plenty of bike hire shops saves breaking your own. After a lot of searching we did find some local marked rides from Arles (search Sud Canigou VTT) which were brilliant. Would certainly recommend the villa.
