Things to do

-Beaches. While visiting a holiday home in Vauvert a beach you simply have to check out is L’Espiguette at Le Grau du Roi. It’s considered one of the best beaches in Languedoc, and is famous for its untamed and unspoiled appearance. It’s six miles-long, and separated from the mainland first by sand dines, and then the Camargue lagoons.

-Nature. The Camargue Park is moments away, and definitely warrants a little exploration. It boasts incredible biodiversity, and is home to wild horses and all kinds of birdlife, especially flamingos. There are walking trails to help you experience the scenery first hand, or from Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer to the south you’ll be able to take a guided 4x4 trip.

-Local history. Aigues-Mortes is the Camargue region’s principal town and is no more than a few minutes away by car. It is an attractive medieval town enclosed by more that a kilometre and a half of defensive walls that date to the 1200s and boast towers at regular intervals. You walk the ramparts from Constance Tower.

-Nimes. If you’re interested in Roman history then Nimes, also easy to get to from Vauvert, would be an essential day out. The amphitheatre here is more than 2,000 years old and regarded as the best in France in terms of scale and state of preservation. Also still standing is the Maison Carré, the only complete Roman temple anywhere.

-Food and drink. In Camargue one of the local specialities is beef, which comes from the semi-wild bulls, which are still bred in the area for fighting. Try Gardiane, a slow-cooked beef stew with local olives and bacon, and served with rice. Vauvert is also on the fringe of one of Europe’s largest wine-producing regions.

EXCELLENT HOLIDAY IN AIGUES-MORTES

5 of 5
We three oldies had a wonderful time in this great apartment. Every facility provided plus pool and large terrace overlooking the canal with all its activities. Short walk to the walled city with numerous restaurants and shops and short drive to supermarkets. A good choice of beaches within easy reach and lots of places to visit. Would highly recommend the accommodation and the area and would love to come again. Frank, Joan & Kathleen, Bletchingley

WOW!!! What an amazing apartment! We did not want to leave!

The location of this beautiful apartment could not be any better. You are almost across the street from the ancient Roman La Maison Carree and within easy walking distance to the other sights and parks. Patrice's apt is decorated beautifully; it is like a museum. The kitchen is well stocked, it was a delight to stay in and cook dinner. The bed was very comfortable. This apt is on the 4th floor but the elevator runs to the third floor and there is a wide stairway after that. Paid parking is just down the street and runs about 10 euro a day. It was a little warm for sleeping since it was a hot summer day and the air conditioner is in the living room. But that would not stop me from booking here again. We are trying to pencil-in another date to return to Nimes and stay here. Patrice should instruct classes: How To Run A Wonderful Vacation Apartment! Other apartment rental owners should be required to stay here so they would know what vacationers are truly looking for in a great vacation rental! This apartment is such a delight!!!!
