Make a holiday rental, home, or cottage in Vallorcine, France your home away from home

Those looking for a ski holiday that includes a relaxing stay at an unspoilt ski village should look no further than Vallorcine. Situated in the Haute-Savoie department of the French state of Rhone-Alpes, this locale provides excellent accommodation in the form of spacious renovated chalets and apartments with beautiful views. Visitors here will enjoy a number of snow-centred activities as well as be close to first-class ski resorts. But even when not skiing, visitors can walk around and admire the beauty of this locale.

Things to do on holiday to Vallorcine, France

Vallorcine provides the perfect grounds for cross-country skiing as well as deep snow skiing. And the beauty is that skiers of all levels will find the right piste to accommodate them. Those just starting out can go to the Col de Balme area where they will find 25km of pistes that are suitable for most age groups. This is the place to ski for those going on a family skiing holiday. More seasoned skiers can head to the Piste d’Emosson which is a challenging black run. The trails here are well maintained and holidaymakers will have nothing to complain about. There is even a skating rink for those who don’t fancy the slopes. And after a hard day’s fun, visitors will find ample refreshment in Vallorcine’s restaurants and bars or get a full-body massage at any of several spas.

Places to visit on holiday to Vallorcine, France

Not far from Vallorcine is one of France’s oldest ski resorts, Chamonix. This locale, which hosted the 1924 Winter Olympics, is home to the Aiguilles du Midi and other peaks. It also has what is considered one of the world’s best off-piste ski runs; the Vallée Blanche. The daunting peaks of Aiguilles du Midi and the Aiguilles Rouges provide a real test for even the bravest of mountaineers. Mountain bikers also love Chamonix in summer as it presents them with challenging trails.

Weather in Vallorcine, France

The temperate climate Vallorcine experiences is more or less typical of the Rhone-Alpes region. This means that in summer temperatures are not uncomfortably hot, hovering between 25 and 27°C. Come winter, temperature drop, as expected, but not too steeply. Between November and January temperatures remain above 5°C. The rainfall in Vallorcine is pretty much consistent throughout the year, with all months receiving an average of between 40 and 60mm.

Travel to Vallorcine, France

Those who will be chartering a flight to Vallorcine can land at one of two airstrips: Megeve Airdrome or the Nancy-Essey Airport, both of which are less than 20 miles from Vallorcine. However, those depending on commercial flights should arrange to land at the Metz-Nancy-Lorraine airport which handles mostly domestic flights from Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse and other French cities. Visitors therefore first have to land in one of France’s international airports (usually Charles de Gaulle in Paris) before boarding a Régional or Twin Jet flight to Metz-Nancy-Lorraine. There they will find taxis as well as rental vehicles from Avis, National, Hertz and Europcar.

Warm, comfortable, homely, beautiful.

5 of 5
The property was very homely and comfortable for my family of 6. It has other houses around except at the front where there is space, a river and trees. It is on 4 floors and the stairs are very steep, which was fine for us (youngest is 9 and we are all able) but would not suit anyone who would struggle with very steep and narrow steps for example older people or very young. It is centrally heated from a pellet fire in the kitchen and was much warmer than we expected which was great. There is also an open fire on the 1st floor. We went in winter and there was a LOT of snow :D which was great for us, just be aware that the paths through the snow to the main road would be very difficult for an older person or a pushchair. We loved walking through the snowy paths to get around and if you're able-bodied, you'll love it too! Shops are a short drive away as are many skiing spots and lifts. You will not be able to park outside the house, it is parked in an underground secure garage which is 5 min walk up the snowy paths. We had a lot of fun sledging our shopping back to the house :D The owner was fantastic, kept in touch with us and has very good local knowledge. A really lovely lady! We will definitely be back!

Worked very well for us. Very comfortable and in a great, quiet location. The garage was brilliant with all of the heavy snowfall and the shower was great. The log fire was very warm and the beds comfy.
