Rich in character and unspoilt scenery, Tursac dates back to prehistoric times and is the home of a prominent architectural site.

Continuing the theme, an interesting local attraction is La Madeleine, a cave-dwelling village on the banks of the Vezere River which features a series of rock shelters that also date back to pre-historic times. Guided tours are available for those that would like to learn more about the history of the area.

Tursac has a more than adequate number of shops and supermarkets to cater for its small share of local residents and holidaymakers. Evening entertainment in the village is relaxed and friendly, with Restaurant La Source – located on Le Bourg – being something of a favourite bolt-hole with locals and visitors alike. The restaurant serves up plates of fresh local produce, with crusty breads, seafood and delicious sauces always high up on the menu.

Spacious secluded property in perfect location with fascinating history. Love this place!

5 of 5
We stumbled across this property while searching through the hundreds on various websites. We are a family of 5 and were looking for something a little bit different among the masses of pricey boutique properties let at a premium. This was perfect! My husband was keen to tell me it used to be owned by an artist! I already knew of Josephine Baker and delighted in telling him she was an 'Artiste' not an artist! We watched a few YouTubes about her life before coming which gave us some history of her life, and significance of the house, the Chateau and the region. The house has 4 bedrooms, 2 of which have a curtain to divide which was fine for the kids. One bedroom is downstairs which we used with an en-suite shower room. The lounge/kitchen/diner is spacious with TV/DVD/wifi. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the bins are down a road opposite the house and it was no issue to wander over or drop the bags off on our way out each day. All thinkable equipment is provided. Hairdryers in rooms too. Towels and linen are available to hire. The gardens are stunning with the historic round houses which once accommodated the guests of Josephine Baker for her performances at the Park opposite. The pool, although unheated, was perfectly ok to use and was refreshing to bomb in to cool off on hot days. Great pool security features with water motion sensor alarm. Phillippe is a lovely gentleman who can speak good enough English to explain everything about the house. He was always available if we needed anything at all. He has provided an extensive categorised collections of tourist information which was very useful for finding places to visit, restaurants and canoe hire places. (Canoe on the Dordogne is a must). The house is at the foot of the Chateau des Milandes (another must) which is a short walk up the drive and even shorter ride if you take a selection of the well maintained bikes that Phillippe also provides. The location of this property is perfect. Off the beaten tourist track but no more than about 15 minute drive to most places of interest. Caves, gardens, Sarlat, La Roque, Castelnaud and canoeing. You can do it all without travelling far at all. There are a couple of supermarkets nearby where prices are reasonable. Worth visiting and making good use of the great BBQ on the terrace. Already miss seeing the sunrise over the picturesque hills in the morning with coffee. We highly recommend this house and would love to return!
